I Think I Blew a Turbo
Well... First off I'm not blaming Ford, nor am I mad at my truck. I knew this was a possibility when I upgraded the truck, I even have Funds set aside for engine Repair/Replacement. NOBODY'S FAULT BUT MINE. But here is what happened. I was accelerating on the freeway from about 65 or 70 wanting to get up to about 85 and I a bit of a heavy foot so I gassed it good. I heard a pop when it would normally start taking off, and the truck fell on its face. I coasted down to about 60 mph without hitting the gas. When I finally hit the gas the truck had no power. After about 30 seconds I have it more gas and it picked up a little better but one turbo was making an awful sound (I can't compare it to anything, but maybee an off balanced fan). I got into my parking garage at work and could hear the pretty whistle from I'm guessing the turbo that still works. The chek engine light came on and Code P0299, a turbo underboost condition, was displayed. I was wondering if anyone had had a similar problem. I'm hoping its not that serious but it probably is.

0.9% is for suckers!
yep, sounds like it. the tuner isn't gonna help much at the dealer as you know, the turbo can be replaced, just finding a Reman one that you don't get directly from the dealer. It would be the same one, just not their price.

maybe you just popped a charge pipe. have a look around, it's free. Or wait till it's cold, and disconnect the charge pipe/ on suspect turbo and try to spin it

Are u out of your 5/60k powertrain warranty? Wouldnt this be covered under warranty regardless on how you drove it, Ford supposedly said these turbo's are rated to 150k so why wouldnt Ford replace the blown turbo?

Bingo. Not everything that goes wrong is a turbo!!! The description of the problem sounds JUST LIKE a coupler slipped off.
FYI, a turbo has to wreck pretty badly to get to the point of not being able to build boost. Usually you start getting some seal leakage way before that happens. It's also EXTREMELY rare for BW and Garrett to have failures. These turbo's will make way more boost than what we're using, and do it reliably.

And good news on the charge pipe slipping off. Spray some hair spray on the pipe and the coupler and reseal it. It'll hold forever. Do it all the time on the diesels and they are pushing 50+ psi. Modded of course.

coon, glad to hear it was something simple..also good to know that this could happen and this way its something we can all check just in case. centex, so if a guy adds a tune to his truck and something fails (parts) Ford would void any warranty to the truck? engineermike, glad to hear your confidence in the turbo maker gives the rest of us newbie's to the turbo world confidence also.
