Default HP/Tq numbers 5.0

Drove a 14 hertz penske gt mustang the other day.Awesome.The numbers are 600hp/500tq. These are not turbo or supercharged. I realize the motors in our trucks are a little diff but wondering why or what it takes to power up trucks and why not seeing higher numbers in n/a 5.0's.Seems the 5.0 n/a should have alot of room for zoom in it.

Main differences between the Mustang Coyotes and the F-150 Coyotes are headers, cams, tune, and compression ratio. Both respond well to anything that let's them breath, n/a or forced induction. Same things that help every engine, intake, exhaust, tune, cams, etc...

Some speculate Ford nerfed the F-150 5.0 a bit so as to let the Ecoboost shine to help it's market acceptance. I'm not sure about all that, but they did tweak it's numbers, compared to the Mustang, so as to give it more torque at a lower RPM range at the expense of higher overall numbers.

These motors amaze me though, I read about guys with +700hp on stock bottom ends (aside from upgraded oil pumps). Marvelous motors.

Sorry, but it does not make that much power. It has a CAI and FRPP tune to match it, GT500 mufflers, that's it for power upgrades. Probably 430hp.

He is right. A stock 5.0 Mustang makes 420hp @ 6500rpm and 390ft-lbs of torque @ 4250rpm. So i doubt that very basic bolt ons are going to add 180hp and 110ft-lbs of torque.

You wouldn't want that in a truck. The 5.0 is already struggling to make low torque which is why is was modded for the f150. Mustang folks complain about the poor low end, but when wound it's great. That's the story with the 5.0.

Huh what? Don't know where you hang out but the usually story is about how long of a torque curve it has, never heard any complaints. Many prefer centrifugal style blowers because they don't want to make tons more low end torque because it's useless if such a light car.

Was only going by what they rated it at.

But this is the car engine in a truck and low end torque is needed and the only way to get low torque is to spend $6k + like you did. And yes I have seen where mustang owned cite the lack of low rpm power. The gm 6.2 has same issue according to camaro forums.

Yes, the Ecoboost is the only real truck engine. Pay no attention to the Taurus lol. Troll.

Huh, I tow 7-8 k and I don't feel I suffer from no low end torque. Do I need to give it some gas to start moving? Sure, but I don't have to floor it, it doesn't feel over worked or stressed getting the load moving and it never struggles. It's no diesel but it does a good job.

To the OP. Do you have a source for the HP/TQ numbers? I can't see the standard motor with the few mods done being much more than the stock numbers.

Quick Reply: HP/Tq numbers 5.0
