I hear you but I wouldn't put much faith in the Wix marketing machine either. That "cardboard" they use for the ends is the same material they use for the filter (filter paper) so if it's good enough to filter your oil it's good enough at the ends.

Yeah the low end Frams can be a little cheap looking but there have been millions/billions of cars that have used them just fine.

Six makes some good filters, so does Fram. I think I'd use a premium filter from any brand in the EB if a genuine Ford were not available. And even then I think a premium filter is the way to go.

I usually change mine at the end of March at around 5K miles and in November at around 7K miles. I don't tow anything heavier than a 4500 lb boat. I use Mobil 1 EP 5w30 and either a Motorcraft or Mobil 1 filter. I wouldn't use a Fram filter anymore if they were free, the anti-drainback valves in them are terrible. I always had a start up valve clatter with them, put in a good filter and clatter is gone.

What you describe with the drain back valve is exactly what I saw when they showed me the cut open fram and wix filter. They didn't have a cut open mobile 1 filter but I'd be curious to see. I tried to get them to pull one off the shelf and do it but no luck!!! And I didn't feel like spending my money for the cause.

Wrong.

Please don't spread false information.

The OLM changes depending on your driving, idle time, towing etc.

Mine went to 15,000 km once, then 13,000 km, and most recently it's probably closer to 11,000 KM (cold weather, using the remote start a lot and idling it)

Speaking facts here. Towing or not, using mostly back country roads or highway. Very little city. Mine has always been right around 10,000 miles. 105,000 miles on my truck and the intervals are still close to the 10k mark. Most variance I've seen has been maybe 700 miles.

Thank you for letting us know that because you haven't noticed YOURS being variable, that it is in fact not variable.

I've followed it in my cheap Dodge car (that one goes off between 5-6K miles.) not on a high horsepower twin turbo engine. 5K mile intervals with penzoil platnium. (only oil that stops the timing chain slap on mine and a few others) . With the fuel dilution especially in the winter 5K miles is plenty.

I change my oil every 5000 km and always use synthetic oil and oem filter.

If you do short trips then 5k is probably safer. If you do extended highway driving then a longer interval is probably safe.
