I just recently bought my first F-150 and I'm new to the EB motor. The dealer I got the truck from changed the oil (I presume with regular oil and not synthetic) and the sticker they put on the window says to go 7,000 miles until the next change. To me, that seems like a long time on regular oil. I do mostly all around town driving with no towing or hauling on the truck. I was thinking of driving 2,000 miles on the oil the dealer put in and then changing the oil and also going to synthetic. The truck has 70K miles on it. I'm curious what you guys think about when to change the oil?


Also, I had the dealer check the Oasis system before I bought the truck and it had no warranty work on it since it was bought new and they don't show they have changed the plugs on it. Dealer say 100K miles before plug change but I've read in the forum that it's recommended much earlier. So, I guess that's on the to do list with the oil change. The truck runs great so far and I love it! I had a Tacoma crew cab before this and it was okay but this is so much nicer!

Change your oil every 5k with reg or syn blend and you will be fine. Full syn you can go 7 to 10k.

Now with the ecoboost you need to monitor the oil for fuel. Fuel can get into it from a leaking hpf pump and from direct injection fuel system. Fuel can get into the oil and dilute the oil. Just keep an eye on it.

Spark plugs are cheap and easy to change. Swap them out for the upgraded motocraft plugs.

I know when I got my new '14 F150 Eco in June the dealer said I could do the first oil change at 5,000 miles. I thought that was way to long to wait. Did it at 1900 miles. I use mobile 1 full sys and Motorcraft filter. The truck as of today has 9200 miles and there is a hint of fuel when I check the oil

Thanks for the replies. I thought 7K seemed too long, even for syn nowadays. I'll run it for a little while since the weekends are hectic with holidays coming up and then once that all passes I'll get full syn oil and new plugs in it.


Now debating on whether getting something like the stage 3 cold air intake will do anything without a tuner...

Change whenever you feel good, you can go longer nowadays with advancements in oil tech.! I use Advanced Nobil 1 Syn., and change mine every 6500 to 7500 miles. Its all preference anyways, I dont understand why anyone would still do 3000 mile intervals nowadays...

I have 58,600 miles on my 12 EB, and just changed the plugs (MotorCraft SP-534's) Runs just as good as it did before I changed them, others change them at 30k miles! I wouldnt unless you have a miss under acceleration!

You could look in your manual... It shows recommended oil change intervals and explains the intelligent monitor, also recommended time to change plugs.

What the dealer recommends should be heard with a clear understanding that nearly every dealer recommends things way too early and recommends items that aren't ever needed, because their goal is to maximize revenue of the service department.

Lessons learned from NA engines don't immediately apply to a boosted direct injected motor. Climate, trip duration, and driving style can make a big impact on the fuel you get in your oil. Cheaper oil changed more often is a better strategy than more expensive oil changed less often for the ecoboost in my opinion.

For what its worth, my wife has a 2014 Explorer Sport with the Eco. I did the first oil change at 5,000 miles. I reset the monitor and drove it to 12,000 miles. Oil life monitor said something like 28% left. We were going on a trip so I checked it and was surprised to see how black it was. Like black I used to find in my PowerStrokes. It reeked of gas /oil but was just below the full mark. I changed it and plan on going no more than 5K from here on out.
