Urea exhaust after treatment is supposed to start bringing the MPG back up since the engine can run dirtier and not as much fuel has to be burned for no reason in the DPF filter

I can average 13 city/highway. When my wife was driving it 1.5 miles to the park and ride it killed my average, it was as low as 8.6! Those short drives are horrid on mpg.

Fair enough. I guess time will tell if MPG's improve , but the owners of urea equipped trucks still have to absorb the cost of refilling the urea unit. Not to mention the increase in the cost of the truck to pay for the technology of the urea system etc.

That's why I switched back to gas this year. Those engineers have to get their heads straight bf I consider another diesel. Ford dumps the extra fuel on the exhaust stroke so you end up with a ever increasing crank case level. I traded the 450 with 20qt of oil in the case. There is only suppose to be 15 this was only after 2500 miles on the oil. Turns out the truck was stuck in regenerate and it didn't know it.

The oil changes were starting to hit my pocket. Couldn't leave the diluted oil in the case.

Diesel emission controls just suck - yes the urea is supposed to help bring fuel economy back up since it wont have to regen as much.

But it adds even more cost to the vehicle, and yet another breakdown item. And like all other DIESEL emission controls, if the control is removed or broken, EPA requires that the vehicle computer de-rate the vehicle. If you run out of DEF, then EPA wants the vehicle to be shut down to IDLE speed. Absolutely stupid.

Those are the numbers I have been hearing often... It's going to take a lot for me to not gun it everywhere at first but if you keep you foot light, you could get those numbers if not better!

This is exactly what I'm getting as well, which is as good or slightly better than my 04 5.4L.

I spent 13 dollars every 7k miles for the urea. yet the regens killed mpg but they are shorter on the 6.7 than they are on the 6.4. I miss my 7.3 but liked the power of the 6.7
