Has anyone ever...
Hey all, I'm thinking about getting rid of my 2006 cummins for a new ecoboost 150. One of the problems I'm having is I have built my truck up a lot (650rwhp) and I'm a little nervous I'll be disappointed. The reasons I'm wanting to get rid of it are I don't tow at all and diesel is getting pretty expensive. Has anyone made the switch from diesel to ecoboost?

V-8 Sounds Great
Why? Because it's awesome. Ever ride in one? My buddy has a Duramax tuned, turbo-back exhaust, banks intake, putting out 800lb/ft of torque. It may not accelerate like a Shelby 500, but damn it moves for an 8,000 lb vehicle!
To the OP, if you're on the fence, just take one for a test drive. I think you'll like it. My EB pulls like a diesel, and I'm sure many others would agree.
But just realize, "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." If you think diesel is expensive, so is gasoline. A tuned diesel may get 21-26mpg highway depending on your rear-end. (my neighbor has a Cummins that gets 28 highway at 65mph unloaded). But, the EB will only consistenly get 22mpg if you have a 4x2 3.15 rear-end. My 4x4 3.55 rear-end gets 18mpg consistently. If your truck is paid off, it may be better for you to keep it, especially if you like it.

I think you will regret it. I have 3 customers with those trucks and they are awesome stock.I never hear any of them complain about fuel milage either.
I traded up from a Ranger 4x4 and I am getting better milage with the eco and I love my FX4 but there are the odd day that i wish I still had it.

Haha 21-26 mpg is a pipe dream for me. I typically get 13-14 regardless of speed. I know that gas is expensive but most places around here diesel is 80-90 cent more per gallon. I am also concerned about reliability at this point. My diesel has been through I think 24 injectors now. Just looking for something that would be fun but maybe a little more reliable and mostly more economical.

I came from a 600whp cummins and you will definitely miss the power. Doing rolling burn outs won't happen on dry pavement with the EB. Whoever said the are getting 28mpg from any diesel truck is blowing smoke. I documented every tank and tried every tune and the best I ever got was 20mpg all highway at 75mph. Tuning is coming for the EB so I think I will be completely happy when it's tuned. And another thing, the EB won't whistle like a big turbo cummins but it makes a nice whoosh.

I can't say whether you'd be disappointed or not by getting a new F150, but I would suggest you go test drive a couple and that way you should be able to tell for yourself. When you go, test both the ecoboost and the 5.0....hell even try out the 3.7. I've been nothing but impressed with my truck and maybe you'll feel the same? Good luck in your decision.
