Mike at 5 star has the best service of any custom tuners I have ever dealt with.

I got in on the group buy with 5 star and got the AFE cai and 87 perf/tow tune and I can tell you that it really woke this truck up. I am sure that the 91 would do even more. After playing with the truck for awhile I filled it up and driving normal I am getting the same mileage as I was before.

I came to the same conclusion (Hypertech is okay if your truck is stock). I tried Hypertech, returned it, tried SCT from 5 Star and didn't like the fact that I had to call Mike for any changes/updates. Returned the SCT and got the new Hypertech that now allowed adjustment of shift points in 5.0 L V8... Just did 2 hour trip from Canada into USA and I lost 2 MPGs with Hypertech compared to the SCT. The SCT tuner provided much more power and better acceleration too... So, now I"m returning the Hypertech and getting back my SCT tuner from Mike

I'm totally uneducated on Tuners, so I need to ask a question. I just want to better understand exactly how far "tunes" can be taken, and learn exactly what "custom" in reference to tunes means.

When you folks are speaking about "custom" tunes from Mike at 5 star, does that mean a person can request specific things within the tunes you purchase? (for example, if I wanted to get the highest MPGs possible, does Mike build a tune specifically to match my request, or is the "economy" tune mentioned on his site the optimum tune a person could get for economy? OR...does it mean you can give Mike information on mods such as exhaust, intake, etc. and he modifies the standard "tow" or "economy" tunes for those specific mods?

At some point I would like to get a tuner, but want to ensure I understand what I'm doing, and what to expect.

AFE also offers a tuner called the Scorcher. I know nothing about it except what i have read on the aFe site. Of course they brag it up as being one of the easiest tuners to use, but, whether that is true or not - I don't know. I'd like to see how the aFe Scorcher compares to the SCT that Mike sells at 5 star. I know one thing for sure, Mike's SCT tuners are good for the new 302 Boss intake manifold and I don't know if the aFe Scorcher is compatible with that particular intake manifold. It might be, it might not be. That's my 2 cents worth.
