Anyone who says you should change oil at 1K miles "doesn't know what he's talking about". I won't say you should wait, but you could wait. There is not a thing wrong with waiting longer than 1k miles (which is, in my opinion, an extreme overkill interval). You could wait even all the way up until the manufacturer recommended interval. I'm pretty sure the engine designers/testers know what they are talking about... You won't damage a thing.

...Or you could change the oil at 1000 miles and every 1000 miles thereafter if you wish. It is your paycheck you are spending and nothing wrong with changing oil at an extreme overkill interval either. Spend money just as frivolously as you like, it'll help stimulate the economy after all .
If you would read the original thread you would understand he was asking about when to change over to synthetic, not what oil change interval to use thereafter. Remember back in elementary school when we were taught to read and understand the question before answering or commenting? Same thing applies here....I'm truly sorry if you felt "belittled" but in modern engines if someone tells you you have to wait X amount of miles before switching to synthetic, they really don't know what they are talking about. But again, this goes back to reading and understanding the original thread and my replay to that original thread.
