Thank you everyone for the posts and good information. It's good to know the 5.0 can pull some decent mpg #s as well.

My dealer made me a really good deal on an FX4 ecoboost that they have on their lot. The info here really makes me second guess getting the ecoboost. That and I love how the 5.0L sounds. I'm not sure I'm ready to give up the V8 sound quite yet. And lastly, the info about modding not being allowed on the Ecoboost just about seals the deal. Decisions... Decisions.... Guess I'll sleep on it.

Thanks again for the information everyone!!

I am driving from Minneapolis to Kansas City(500 miles)tomorrow. I am going to set my cruise at the posted speed limit (70) to see what kind of mileage I can get. On my previous trip I did not use the cruise control.

The best mileage I ever got in my 2008 5.4 was 15 mpg. I am really happy with this motor. I am going to purchase the 5 star tune to see if I can get rid of the annoying lag at low rpm's, which is my only complaint so far.
Please let us know the numbers. Also, take some pictures for "evidence" if you think about it

I have a 2011 XLT Scab 4X4, 5L V8. With just over 3k on it now, am getting around 18+ mpg and that's all around town to work and stuff. I am very impressed with this motor as it seems better in every way from the past 5.4L V8s I have owned.

Default fx4 70-75 mph 5.0L mpg

I have the 5.0L 2wd super cab 3.31 stock 17" wheels. Did a trip upstate (with only about 500 miles on the OD) part flat and part hills at just over the speed limit and got 25 on a 300 mile rt. That whole tank came in at 21 with the balance local driving. This tank I'm down to about 20 with a lot of trips under 4 miles but still have 3/4 tank left. The short trips really pull the average down it seems because the engine never really gets warmed up to proper operating temps. I find that as long as I don't actually have to stop dead at a stop light that the mpg is reasonable. Once stopped for a while frequently you get killed. I'm loving this engine. I'm coming from old Volvos and a Subaru. This truck is like a rocket compared to them and more economical. Of course if I drive it like a rocket all the time the MPG will drop like a rock. I drive like and OF to get the good miles.

Man those low gears really help the mileage!

Low gears and I'm also very careful to not get on it - gas or brake. I drive like an old fart.

All...

Thanks for all the information on the 5.0 freeway mpg numbers. I really wanted a Red Candy FX4 with the Nav. Since you can't order either of these options I had to go with what I could find on dealers lots. My dealer enticed me with a great deal on one with the ecoboost so I bit this weekend. It was a tough decision. After researching and driving both, I don't think you can make a bad choice. Both seem like great engine options.

Thanks again...
