Ford Ecoboost Engine Carbon Deposits: What You Need to Know
#11
Thanks for posting the video FordTech!!! Great info, and they can never be too long!
My truck is in for the "fuel in oil"tsb right now. I know they will be re calibrating the pcm as per the tsb instructions. how do you think the new strategy will affect engine output (power) and fuel economy?
Cheers

Keepin' the lights on!
Thanks for the video! I do appreciate you producing these videos.
That being said, I wish Ford would wake up and recognize the importance of a good, properly installed catch can. It is especially important for folks like me who, due to where I live, drive, etc., cannot drive it like I stole it all the time. Without the catch cans, by the time I could open it up, I could be taking a chance of hydo-locking the motor due to how much crap accumulated in the CAC.
I am also if Ford made any improvements to prevent fuel dilution in the oil on the 2015s.
Just before I traded my '12 EB, it had excessive fuel in the oil, both obviously (rising oil level) and as indicated on an oil analysis. I could fill the catch cans so quick I even added an additional reservoir so I didn't have to drain every 200 miles. Unfortunately, the local dealers didn't know/care how to fix it (it also had some other issues) and I was extremely busy with work so I dumped it.
Carbon deposits are nothing new to me. Just like you said, take apart any other high mileage motor and there will be carbon deposits on the valves.
Again, thanks for the video!

I added an RX monster catch can to collect oil and mostly water in order to reduce the amount of material that would get on the intake valves, carbonize, cause a drivability issue that would be normally sorted with a top-end cleaner after i had heard that Ford was trying out the very same system on some test fleet somewhere.

He was/is a good salesman - lots of FUD peddling with some good information thrown in for good measure.

All that have the RX or latest UPR know what they are talking about. I believe resale value will depend on " hows the oil separater " question. Since the OEM puts them on the BAJA truck sooner than later it needs to make it another option. I will never purchase a used EB that doesn't have one and look like its been there for years.

Eco-5.0-Eco again
Thanks as always for the advice here and through PM's...I suspect more and more "older" Eco owners are gonna face this issue, I did...although I miss the power, I don't miss the issues.
