First Oil Change early?
I am on the fence with this one. I just bought my EcoBoost F150 and have about ~725 miles on it so far. On March 2nd I will be starting a 2300 mile trip from Massachusetts to Utah. I am guessing I will have 3500-4000 miles total by the end of the trip. Should I do an oil change right before I leave or should I wait until the truck tells me to do so. I know the truck will go up to 10000 miles before it tells you, but does it shorten the interval for the first change or anything that would cause it to demand a change half way across the country?

The PCM will compensate a little bit but not a whole lot. An early oil change is not a bad idea as it does help remove any wear metals if there is some. Also I would recommend using synthetic oil at a 5,000mile(ish) interval.
A lot of people argue about oil change intervals, it is up to you but do some searching and you will understand why I recommend it.

Changing the oil can't hurt so with a trip that long planned why not do it. Like Vozaday said if there any wear metals from the miles put on it so far you'll be free of those.

I changed mine after 1000 miles it was black. due to the fact it had been on the lot for over half a year.

I changed mine after at 5500 miles. My truck is a 5.0 and didn't break in until after 15k miles so I wouldn't switch to synthetic until you know the break in process is complete. A good synthetic will pretty much stop the break in process and if the rings are not fully set they likely never will. I've seen it happen.

Question hasn't been asked in 11 hours...
Let the truck tell you. You should easily get 7,500 miles before it does, normally 10,000, or a year.
I was at 6,200 before a 3,000 mile trip and it was showing it would be about 9,500 before it kicked on. I drove the trip and got my oil changed when I came back.
Amazing the amount of people that don't follow manufacturer's recommendations.
