First oil change on 5.0 which route

The Walmarts around here don't carry FL500s either. Luckily Advance Auto is only 1.5 miles from Walmart so it''s not too far out of the way. The filters are priced reasonably at Advance but their oil prices are outrageous.

Keep in mind all the Ford testing of these engines had Motorcraft oil/filters. I've always use the Motorcraft oil/filters in my Ford trucks and never an issue so I dont see any reason to change or waste money on the overpriced oils. You wont see any advantage or difference so why spend the $$.
I can buy a gallon of Rotella synthetic at Walmart for 23 bucks which would be 46 bucks and filter 12 bucks for the 5.0 considering it takes 8 quarts. Cost effective?? Yes.
There is no way in hell I will use the conventional oil for 7500k of driving before my first oil change which Ford recommends (I will be in at 5K) and I will be converting to Synthetic as soon as my 2 years of free maintenance is over with.

STX Ted, ALL of the Ford torture test were conducted with the Motorcraft 5W-30 Synthethic blend oil/filter. Anything more is a waste of cash. It makes guys feel like there getting better protection, your not. Your just spending more money for the same product. This topic is the same as any other product thread whether its wax, tires, cleaners,or windshield wipers, its all subjective. I just choose to put the oil/filter that the engineers used to test these engines and the viscosity of the product is proven. For me its OEM oil/filters for my EB.

Drained and Added 3 Quarts Synthetic Oil
I have about 1,000 miles on my 2013 5.0 now.
I had about 3 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil let over from my last truck.
Oil at 1,000 looked good, but eventually will convert to full synthetic a while down the road...maybe around 7,500.
I drained about 3 quarts of the first oil in the truck, and refilled with the 3 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic oil.
I've read pros and cons of mixing different oils, but it was only 3 quarts.
I figured that would give the engine a slow introduction to full synthetic.
anyone know of any negative effects of what I did? (from experience)

I do say my engine seem to run alot quieter yesterday after this synthetic oil mix.

I don't think it should cause you much grief. I personally wouldn't do it as different companies can use different additives and a personal mix IMO would not be beneficial overall. But as long as you got the correct type for your engine you should be fine.

I don't intend on keeping it in there long. will change it all out, including the filter the next oil change.
