The monitor basically shoots for 10K oil changes so Ford is comfortable with that. My dealer uses 3K stickers (LOL) and I ignore and change with about 33% oil life remaining (about 7.5K). If I take it to the dealer, I put a case of Mobil One 5W-30 in the passenger floorboard, tell them to use that. The Motorcraft filters are good.
At my first change, the tech asked why I only brought 6 quarts. I told him so he wouldn't overfill it. He later told me I was correct. :-)

Then follow your oil life monitor. Using extremely high quality oil and a oil filter that is 99% efficienct using ISO 4548-12 testing along with the filter being rated for minimum 10k oil changes (Ultra is rated for 15K) is the key to living with a oil life monitor. I have a 2004 CTS-V. I changed the oil early (3k) and did a compression and leakdown test and recorded the results. I change on the monitor (around 9300 miles) use mobil 1 and FRAM Ultra filters. just turned 70K miles, did a compression and leakdown test , numbers are great. we also pulled a valve cover and the engine is very clean inside.
If Fram is going to change public perception, they are going to have to do a LOT of work. I havn't touched a Fram filter since I was a teenager because of the horrendous reputation and quality control problems they had back in the older days. I remember the days of super poorly constructed filters with glued on paper filtering materials along with people hitting the various message boards blasting the issues they had with them. Even the shell felt flimsy compared to other comparably priced filters.

Doesn't the 5.0 take nearly 8 quarts of oil? I just bought a bunch of Mobil 1 from Walmart and am wondering how much to take with me when I go have my first oil change done at a local shop.

Check the owner's manual, capacities section for the correct oil amount. The Eco takes 6 quarts of 5W-30, but the 5.0 takes more and it is 5W-20.

Oh oops. I thought you had the 5.0.

I am surprised the Ecoboost takes so little oil as I would have thought Ford would have increased oil capacity to help with cooling and so on. The Ecoboost in my Lincoln also took about 6 quarts of oil.
