I know ford says you can 10,000 miles between oil changes, but I still change My oil 3,500 to 4,000 miles. I keep my trucks on average 10-12 years, and tow alot. and my fords have always been in good runing condition when I trade them in, so I think changeing the oil more often is the way to go if you want your truck to last long term. I also use full synthetic oil and a Ford oil filter.

I just change mine when the idiot light comes on. We did a lot of testing with a company that designs the oil sensors and I was very surprised at how the oil was when changing it every 3k-5k. The oil isn't not that bad particle count wise unless you are running in dirty conditions.

I did my first at 500 miles. Old school theory of any impurities flushed out when motor is still new. From now on every 5000 or twice a year. Make switch to full synthetic next change.

So, do regular oil at 500 miles then change to full synthetic the 2nd oil change? I had heard that changing the oil at 500 miles would be good to do for the first oil change...old school but its a good theory.

I changed mine at 3000 with Motorcraft Semi Synthetic, then again at 6500 with Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. I'll probably change it again at 10,000, then 5,000 mile intervals after that. I'd recommend changing the factory fill at or before the 3,000 mile mark. Just my opinion.
