All new trucks are factory limited by law to approximately 100 mph. You can remove it with an SCT tuner.

Also, suspension is not designed for high speeds like a performance car. Try an emergency maneuver at speed and disaster happens. So just be safes. Just because the power is there to attain a speed, doesn't make it safe or prudent. However, I do this the 98 mph is a tad low in some of the big country states sphere speed limits are high and everyone is traveling 90+.

I'd rather have the limiter then the stupid 85 mph speedometers they had at one point

On September 1, 1979, in a regulation that also regulated speedometer and odometer accuracy, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) required speedometers to have special emphasis on the number 55 and a maximum speed of 85 mph (135 km/h).

Although there is no law in the USA at present, Congress has set up a committee to investigate the Mandatory fitment of Speed Limiters to various vehicles
What Law ??

People always yammer on in these threads about BS and legalities.... Tires is one reason.... but taking a tire to 130 mph rated for 100 mph in a short burst won't be imminent death. However..... driveshaft critical speed on the other hand is a whole lot scarier. When that stupid thing lets go and starts whipping around under the truck at 100 mph + it will get really scary really fast.

Any tuner can remove it.... which means raise it to unobtanium. My two trucks are tuned with HP tuners and the limits of the PCM is 412 Km/HR lol. That said... I am fine with doing under the factory limiter... I just don't like being "limited".

This^. I had a 97 SHO v8 that was factory limited to 144 mph, it had the electronic tuned suspension and tires and I didn't like the feel of it at 140 when I let off, felt like it was one sneeze from going out of control, very spooky feeling.

130 in my truck? I'm going to pass on that and as posted I don't like being limited so mine is off as well.

Trucks and bus type vehicles and most SUV's are limited to 100 mph because they are top heavy. Vehicles with lower centers of gravity may have limiters as well but they are usually higher speeds.

FWIW I had a set of LT tires that were limited to 75mph. Before you go removing the limiter (so you can drive faster why else?) you should check your tires to find out. It won't be written on the sidewall. You'd also better hope nothing breaks at that speed. Why would your insurance pay if it does? If you want to drive >100 do it on a track at least so you don't kill any of us. And get a go fast car.
