Which engine 5.0 or 3.5 EB would you recommend?

Thank you fellas for the input.
EB seems to be on top.
However I do like to mod, even if it's just CAI/Tune/Exhaust.
Another concern down the road is, I assume the Eco Boost will be more expensive to repair????

I Like Tires
That is probably quite likely but it's hard to say at this point as nobody has been able to tell us from experience how much things like turbos and injectors will cost to replace on these motors.

I'm not sure how you're making this conclusion. 1 or 2 guys are complaining about poor mileage, likely due to some defect. Most others are doing well. My last tank was over 21 mpg, whereas my last three 1/2 ton trucks were in the 12-17 range.

As a side note it has been about a month and I am anxiously waiting for the the people you called to offer the EB tunes and programs.

For the use of the truck that the OP describes, I think that the 5.0 would be the perfect engine for you.
If you do tow a lot, the torque peak on the 5.0 is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY up there in the middle 4k's RPM's. The torque curve on the EB comes on in the high teens and stays flat virtually all the way to redline. One of the reasons I still like my 5.4 is that the torque peak may be 20 ft/lbs lower than the 5.0, but it also gets there at "only" 3,500 RPM. When we are pulling 8,400 pounds up a 6% grade in to a 40 MPH headwind, I just stick it on 3,500 RPM and GET 'ER DONE.....
And yes, I'll bet that Ford is VERY concerned about folks modding the EB. Its already a highly optimized and highly stressed little engine, with peak boost of 12 psi and a temporary overrun to 16. That folks, is a LOT of boost for a "stock" engine.......does anyone know if the EB has forged internals? It must to sustain that kind of boost while towing 11,300 pounds!

mr mike, from what I've read, I certainly wouldnt classify it as 'most others' doing 'well' (unless 'well' is defined as <1 mpg better than the 5.0) or as '1 or 2 guys complaining about poor mileage' not to mention the pure speculation about defects. pot meet kettle on speculation and 'uncited' 'facts'.

I bought the 5.0.......love the engine..............I would love for someone that knows to tell me why Ford offers 2 v-6 engines for the f-150.......looks like to me why not just put turbos on the 3.7 and drop the 3.5 to cut cost of producing 2 engines that are basically the same.

My FX4 Scab eco averages 20 combined city hwy...has 4400 miles on it now. Had a best of 22 hwy so far. Perfectly happy with that. Definitely way better than my 02 FX 5.4 w/ 3.55 gears which was lucky to get 16 hwy

Well my wife doesn't want me to get a v8, because of the gas cost.
So i was like EB is another option, but i'm not seeing that much of a difference.
So in the end she'll expect better from the 6 and i dont want to be like i told ya so.
i would image after break in the MPg goes up and using 93 octane with mild driving.

There are facts available on this. 5 start tunes has tuners for the 5.0.

Presently, you can get an exhaust, tuner, and CAI for the 5.0. Presently, you can get an exhaust, boost controllers, and high flow air filters for the EB.
Speculation is that people will figure out what Mustang 5.0 engine parts can be installed in the truck. Speculation (and some information from vendors) is that tuners, piping upgrades, bigger turbo's, Methanol kits, intercoolers, etc, etc, etc, will be available for the EB. Having some years experience with turbochargers makes me see a world of possiblities on this engine. Not to mention, the EB might benefit from some parts off the 3.7 NA truck motor.
Coincidentally, I did some calling last week and was told there will be something released in about a week and a half. Again, do your own calling around and see what turns up. Are you really betting on no one being able to crack the ECM and offer tunes for the EB?
