Has anyone tried an electric cutout on their ecoboost? I've been thinking about it as I need to be quite in the camp grounds but with a lifted truck I would like it to have a little attitude when I'm out and about. I was wondering if it would hurt anything as I'm new to turbo engines or if it would sound good or really ricer?

I cant imagine you are going very fast through a campground. Less than 20? The aftermarket ecoboost exhausts I have heard are fairly quiet at that speed.

I have always like the heart throb sound.

No I'm not going fast at all through them but I do leave early for work so at times my truck is started by 5am. My old v8s were loud one with super 44 flow master the other with a short magna flow. Its that initial startup where the engine is high revs is what I was woried about.

Stock is always the quietest. Is there any exhaust shops near by? Or other members trucks who have aftermarket exhaust that you could listen too? That is going to be the ultimate way to decide.

Yes there is, just haven't heard alot of EB with exhaust in person. I guess I'll check around maybe the shops have done one and can arrange a little preview meeting I didnt think of that.

Since you are in mn research how road salt will effect those cut outs. I've heard horror stories of rust and grime causing problems with these. Ymmv

I believe LET is selling cutouts. They can also tune for them.

get a good one, is all I can say!
I had a cheapo cutout on my V6 car before, with the flappy flap that rotates 90 degrees inside the Y to open / close. It started leaking after just a few weeks, and sound like sh*t when you lift off the throttle.

Some better-made ones have a "gate" that slides in & out rather than rotate, and they seem less prone to leaking.

My car was a V6 (non-turbo), it would sound a little diesel-like from inside at low RPM but really scream (in a good way) at high RPM. The cutout was also right under the passenger seat, before any cat / muffler.

If i had to do it again, I probably would but spend more on the cutout itself ($200-300 seems to be the minimum for a decent system)

I havent looked underneath the EB yet, but if you want an idea of what it would sound like, unbolt a flange after the headers and go for a drive
