FORD: 2011-2014 F-150

This article supersedes TSB 14-0194 to update the Parts List.

ISSUE:
Some 2011-2014 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 3.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine and built on or before 10/10/2014 may exhibit a malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0016. Other DTCs and driveability concerns may also be present. This concern may be due to a worn primary timing chain.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE

a.Yes - proceed to Step 2.

2.Using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS), with key on and engine running (KOER), select the VCT_INT_ACT1 Parameter Identification Data (PID) in the Datalogger.
a.If VCT_INT_ACT1 PID reads +6 degrees or greater, proceed to Step 3.
b.If VCT_INT_ACT1 PID reads +5 degrees or less - this procedure does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics.

I first glance I'm not recognizing any differences between the original TSB and the updated one. Personally, I'm just praying for a CEL before my 24 month repair warranty is up. And yes, I'm starting to get pissed at Ford for the way they are not dealing with the problem.

Just noticed the part number is listed for 2013-2014 trucks. That's odd they don't have 2011-12 listed under that part#.
Maybe just a change in diagnostics procedure. It appears the timing chain part# was changed somewhere along the way. Looks like it ended with a B at one time and now C.

The consistencies and similarities between owners who've had the issue points to a serious problem within our engines that Ford Engineering either can't fix, won't fix or doesn't really care to fix... Someone at Ford needs to step up soon (because it's a human or small group of them making these decisions).

If my 2014 makes the noise within my warranty period I'm going all-in for a Buyback through CAMVAP.

Default Results of Timing Check

Got the bad news today.............last time the timing was out 4 degrees. It is now out 5 degrees and the dealer says they will not touch it. They will not stand up to Ford even though they know there is a problem. They have heard it. I give up................

My dealer has offered to check the timing (free of charge ) next week.

It will be interesting to see what the difference is.
