Default Ecoboost waste gate/bov problem

I have a 2011 ecoboost f150 with 44000 miles. I'm experiencing a problem when accelerating with the turbo on the drivers side. Seems that the wastegate is constantly opening and closing and making a loud popping noise. I can watch the boost gauge on my cs cycle form 2 to 5 or 6 psi of boost rapidly. Usually only when the torque converter is Locked below 1500 rpm. However it will occasionally happen throughout normal driving , and Truck will accelerate normally under heavy throttle. I am currently running a MAK cat less off road y- pipe and it happens worse with the y pipe installed as opposed to the stock y-pipe. Ford is clue less . I also replaced the wastegate solenoid on that turbo as well with no change. Anyone have any ideas or experience with this ?

Sounds like the same thing I experienced. Watch your advanced timing under this situation. Report back.

edit: happens tuned, stock, or both?

Maybe the CAC isn't free flowing. Remove it and clean it with a mild detergent ? Are you running a tune ?

Have you verified the BOV to be working on that side? I only ask because it is mounted on the turbo on the 2011-2012 models. If the valve is not working properly it can be opening and closing at random and cause boost issues.

Generally, and just in my 15 years of turbo vehicle building and tuning experience, a wastegate doesn't cause the issue you are having. Generally the gate will just stay shut and allow you to build whatever boost you want to the moon or it sticks open and you can build no boost whatsoever at any time. Granted I realize that these are electronically controlled and that throws another wrench into the equation, but if you have already swapped the solenoid that control the gate, I would check the blow off / bypass valve on that side and verify that it is working.

Also check to make there are no cracks in the air charge pipe. Get it smoked it's the only way you will see it.

I am running a 5 star 87 octane performance/tow tune. Also had a MPT 87 performance tune that I was having the same issues with. They both worked fine before the addition of the offroad y-pipe. I loaded the stock tune and the truck seems fine, I could not duplicate the surging and it is very easy to duplicate. I had mpt send over a few diffrent versions of the tune , I even data logged the truck but still was having issues. So it is the tuning I suppose then? Anyone running this pipe ? If so what tuning do you use? I need a tune to turn off the cel

Thanks for the info, how would I go about verifying that everything is in working order?
