Ever heard of bad eggs? Can happen with transmissions as well as engines.

from what I've read, they crammed a 6-speed tranmission into the housing for a 4-speed and in doing so, had to reduce the size of the parts. Not necessarily a problem but it probably wont hold as much power as it could have.

I know I havent read about a rash of tranmission failures (other than those related to the pump issue but that's not a power problem), nor do I expect to once tuner use increases.

Does it modify TQ management or tranny shift points?

These trannies are stout, as I have personally seen 4 stock trans Mustangs lay down over 700 rwhp, and then bang out high 9 second quarter mile times at about 3500 lbs. If Ford is replacing the trans for 2014, I would venture to guess it has something to do with the 2015 CAFE regulations, either adding gears (Chrysler is getting the 8 speed next year), or some type of efficiency gains for mpg increases.
