It's 2 years old, lol.
Vindicated? It's heavily modified, suspension and performance. It is a fantastic exercise in ingenuity and it without question will outperform a stock Raptor, maybe even one with mild performance upgrades (CAI/exhaust), but that Eco Raptor cost over 80k to build (and no telling how much labor that isn't accounted for). Would it outperform a Raptor with equal attention to modifications/price point - absolutely not.
I'm pretty sure the pushback was/is that in its stock form, the Eco would not outperform the 6.2. At best it would be a wash with a slight mpg advantage to the Eco. We all knew the ECO could move the truck around, they raced two of them in Baja though they weren't run in a stock configuration.
The Eco wasn't offered in the Raptor because at the time of release, there were no F/I classes in Baja. It's wasn't some grand conspiracy to hold back the greatest engine ever bestowed on mankind...

Video is 2yrs old... See that is how much I quit caring but it would have helped my argument back when I was told No Way-No How could it compare. Now Im NOT a believer that the Ecoboost is "the greatest engine ever bestowed on mankind..." it's just a freaking engine plane and simple. I have no desire to prove which engine is better because frankly I don't care, and I don't need engine size to prove my worth, both are great engines in my book. My point was I have been shot down multiple times for even suggesting that a Eco would make a good engine in the Raptor. Its almost like blasphemy to some 6.2L and Raptor owners to even mention Ecoboost and Raptor in the same sentence which is ridiculous. I believe in that video the guy even mentions that the modified Eco engine would still out perform a modified 6.2 liter engine. But I don't really care about that either. It all boils down to what makes the consumer happy and puts a smile on your face at the end of the day. I would have bought a Raptor if the engine would have fit my lifestyle, but driving 900miles every two weeks with a 6.2L would not justify my getting ride of my old truck that got 16.5-17mpg on the interstate.
Obviously, a modded ECO is a different story. I've said all along that I would take an ECO if it had better output than the 6.2 - which in its current stock form it does not. With hydraulic steering - required in the Raptor, the output of the Eco will drop about 10hp.
If Ford doesn't offer an Eco Raptor in its next version, (I personally think they will given the new TT classes in SCORE) my plan is to pick up a used RCLB 4x4 and build my own.

Ya that would work for sure. But in this case with limited mods the 6 is the performer. The 8 is no slouch either that's for damn sure I'm just saying if a 6 modded to the ***** outperformed an 8 modded to the ***** I'd just pick the one that works better. And yes I realize an 8 modded up that much will outperform a 6 I'm just saying I don't let the sound of an engine determine my choice. Yes I truly love the sound of an 8 and nothing can compare to it but I truly love performance as well

The 6.2 in the raptor with forced induction makes what, twice what even the most modded ecoboost does now.
