What fixed my 2011 EcoBoost shutter/skipping........
A tip from a guy I know that works at the local Ford dealership. I changed the plugs. The old plugs were gapped to .044 and the new plugs were gapped at .034. Anyhow, skipping is gone. I thought it was the dreaded condensation issue. Turns out I was wrong.

Iridium plugs are pre gapped. It was the stock plugs from when it was new. They were gapped at .044. The new ones are the ones they recommend to use. They come pre gapped at .034 thousands. If you use a plug gapper to re gap iridium plugs it gouges the plug gapper. The iridium is harder that the material the gapper is made out of.

The iridium plugs can be gapped by bending the ground electrode which is steel..The Iridium is the center electrode coating..dont run anything but Iridium plugs now..They run like 400C cooler then Platniums..
Most people gap at .030 because of the combustion pressures from the compression ration and additional turbo pressures..very hard to light the plug...need better coils..

Even the iridium plugs should be changed every 30K miles if run hard (towing, racing, tuned). I towed heavy and had a miss start around 20K with my 2011 and a tow tune.

Boosted engines are hard on plugs..because of the combustion pressures...and the fact they require more energy to fire the plug..I am into my 3rd set and hav to do something to the OEM coils...

New (to me) 2012 F150 ECB Dreaded Stutttering
I purchase a 2012 F150 ECB last week with 84K miles. It ran fine for me on the test drive. So the wife and I bought it. The next day I was taking my second set of keys to the dealer for the Jeep JK I traded in and my truck began shuddering severely as we were driving up a steep local hill at ~ 50 - 55 MPH and a flashing Check Engine Light. The ECL never set for some reason. But driving it around I noticed the shuddering was occurring fairly frequently so I knew I had a problem.
I searched Google for answers after doing some drivability tests that set a cylinder #3 misfire (I pulled the code with my trusty ODBII scanner). For some reason this did not set the CEL on.
My first hint was a very good YouTube video that showed OEM Motorcraft plugs that had excessive gaps and cracks with Carbon tracking with far less than the Ford-stated 100K miles. I bought new plugs and when I pulled mine out sure enough...I had Motorcraft plugs with large electrode gaps and one plug also had two vertical cracks with obvious carbon tracking. I replaced all of the plugs and my truck now runs great!
Then of course...while doing further research after I replaced the plugs,
I found the 300+ pages on this very problem right here on this forum. I signed up and I am now a member of this forum.
I have been driving my truck every day since replacing the plugs and it runs awesome.
