Either way... 10+k and 3% grade is a lot to ask and I get that BUT.... 245 is just too damn hot.
245 is real hot!! anything hotter and transmission parts start getting cooked.

No this truck has never had any issues whatsoever and constantly gives 20 mpg.

The truck will not "keep itself cool" of the system doesn't have the capacity to do so.

Next time I have it out though I'll give it a shot just to put it to bed.

I hauled just about 10,000lbs today in my ecoboost and that was all over hilly terrain. I've never once had to put my truck in manual mode to make it keep speed. I didn't find it nessasary to do that... Did you check coolant?

Was the converter locked??

On the stock tune my truck wouldnt lock the converter in 3rd while in manual shift mode. It would always wait until i hit 4th to lock up

Either way 245 is way too hot for that outside air temp with that load.

Except, the truck DOES have the capacity. If you didn't have the app you wouldn't know the temp...only thing you would know is the gauge moved but didn't reach red. You shifted it manually. Do it again and leave it in D.

I'm really not trying to be a douche here, but over thinking the system leads to problems. I'm sure if you take it to the dealer right now your only going to get one of two answers...1) you say you manual shift it and they will say what I am saying or 2) you don't tell them and only say it over heated and you will get "no codes, couldn't replicate problem"

Bottom line, I "feel" the issue was the manual shifting. And it's not coming from a armchair internet mechanic.

Hilly terrain and a 10 mile 3% grade are quite a bit different.

The truck performed amazing my entire trip
With the exception of the steep grades.

1st off the 99.9% of us that dont have tourque apps and reley on the ford gauge will not have a clue what temp the engine is actualy runing and dont care. also by todays standards 245 is not that excesive as long as you are not loosing coolant forgedaboutit. there is no way that you will warp a head or blow a gasket at that temp as long as the cooling system is full. as for manual shifting the eb engine is a tourque monster and works best low and slow and the computer does an excelent job of selecting gears I just put mine in drive and tow hauel and let it do its thing. this engine also has self protecting limp mode which derates the power if it gets to hot and will prevent any damage and up rate again as the temp drops. put it in drive and use the manual shift to go down hill thats what its for. happy trucking

Agree with you on all accounts.

However I'll be taking it in just to document the problem as I KNOW it will happen again in October when we head back to the dunes.

I want to agree in your comments regarding 245 temp. That is VERY hot for 20 years ago standards.... Probably not too excessive by today's standards.

Either way I do know it was a 16th of an inch away from red.... Too hot!

I'll leave it in D next time and see how she does!
