Just to give you guys an idea on reading the dipstick. When the oil level is over full and has reached the bend, it is about 1/4 quart overfilled. I have had mine measured every change for the last year and thats about where it sits at. So the height on the dipstick can be decieving.

Also one last point I would like to make is that the original ecoboost used to use 5w20 oil. They now use 5w30. I believe this was done to combat the oil dilution and to prevent damage. I change my oil every 4000 miles with full synthetic.

I know a high oil level from fuel dilution is not a good situation, but it is manageable. There was an oil tech on another forum that said that a good synthetic oil can handle up to 5% fuel dilution without compromising the oil.

I have had all my changes (8 in 12,600 miles) done at the dealer an have asked them to measure what they are dumping. They don't want to "bother" with that. I think they don't want the hard evidence of the over full. Hell it took me going to the dealer at least a dozen times with it overfull before they acknowledged it and put it in the record. The percentages of fuel that I am getting with my oil analysis jive with what you are saying as far as the volume/level on the stick. I would have thought that it would have been more than that at the bend. Thanks for that info, its good to know. I still have a rise in oil level after replacing everything that is known to cause the issue. And yes, I know that DI engines do this, just not 4 and 5% in 1200 miles.

The weird thing is that it seems to stay around that 4-5% from 1000 miles to 7000 miles from looking at a lot of different tests. It doesn't really make much sense.

Could be worse. I have a 1.5l 250hp S/C motor that creates so much blowby the general consensus is to change oil every 5 hours. Lol

I just checked and found out my oil also smells like gas. I am going to take it in and have it looked at. A couple questions...

Any updates on this issue and does the TSB fix the issue or has it fixed it for anyone? Do all ecoboosts have this issue to a certain level or just some worse than others, or do many owners just never notice or know about it?

How much overfill is 5% on the dipstick? (.35 of a quart ?)

Is there a update on software that warns of overfill?

I have the Ford premium care ESP up to 100K. If this issue causes problems with the motor or leads to failure I take it is covered ?

Thanks

All DI engines have this issue, to a point. The newest TSB should help you out with this issue. If it doesn't, I would have them look at the high pressure fuel pump.

No software warns of overfull oil.

Read your warranty?

If your oil level isn't rising I wouldn't worry about the smell. But I wouldn't go more than 5k miles between oil changes either.

I have a 2013 3.5 with 14K miles. I also smelled fuel in the gas and read about the TSB 15-003.

I took it in and they replaced my black PCV valve with a brown one which is supposed to work better. They also flashed a new strategy to the PCM which supposedly reduces how rich it runs at start-up and idle.
The best part it my oil was due to be changed but since changing oil and filter is part of the TSB I got a free oil change.

I also replaced all my spark plugs once I got it back from the dealer. The old plugs only had 14K miles and looked almost new and were gapped to .28-.30. I had re-gapped them shortly after I bought the truck 3 years ago.
Since I had another set of plugs I went ahead and put new ones in after the TSB for the heck of it.

I drive the same 34 mile route to the airport so I have a very controlled test loop for reviewing MPG. Only thing I can't control is wind and climate but driving style and route are the same.
After the TSB and new plugs I went from 15.5 MPG to 19.5-20.0, both on winter gas. 70 mph 95% of the way with cruise control set.
Not sure which of these helped the most (PCV, tune, plugs) but the combination yielded better results.
I'm checking the dip stick often and looks to be at the same level as when I got it back from Ford, at the high end of the hash marks.

Not sure of the TSB cures the issue completely since fuel in oil is a DI characteristic but I think it helps and it was free. I also have Ford ESP until 2020 or 100K miles so I'm fairly safe if anything further happens with this issue.
For what its worth
Danny

My catch can helped a lot with the fuel-in-oil issue. My first 3 changes had a really heinous odor that would cause me to have to get out from under the truck while I was draining the oil. I put the catch can on at 9500 miles and have done 4 oil changes since and get no noticeable smell. The crap that comes out of the catch can certainly smells strongly of gas and oil, almost like 2 stroke exhaust.

I am not suggesting that the catch can itself does anything, but I do think that rerouting the PCV system is beneficial in keeping the pressure in the crank low and the flow high enough to help vaporize the fuel.

Had the TSB done, and still has the issue, of course the dealer says there's nothing more they can do. Only completed 1 of the 3 things on the TSB, but of course I didn't buy the vehicle from them either, so maybe thye just don't want to do it. I looked into the catch cans, but they are a little pricey.

How could they only have done one of the things? It shouldn't matter if you didn't buy the truck there, it all pays the same. Talk to the service manager.

How much fuel do you have in the oil?
