Please do. I called my brother which used to be an engineering consultant to Ford (and most other motor companies) but he's been out of auto for 4 years now. He knows nothing about what's going on with this filter. His only take on the matter, "If it seals up with no leaks you're golden."

Default I'll keep my FL2055

Went to my Ford dealer Quick Lane this morning and spoke with the manager he called the Parts Director to come talk to me. He logged on to fmcdealer.dealerconnection.com and printed this for me:

FL2055 Superseded by the FL500S (5/4)

The FL500S is the service version of the filter installed on the 3.5 GTDI engine at the assembly plant. It has the same dimensions as the OE filter. The FL2055 is dimensionally larger than the FL500S and both have the same threads.

He has spoken with their industry tech reps that send these directives to them. He was assured that this filter will do no harm to the engine and that the engineers felt that the size of the 2055 was not necessary to accomplish the same task as one half its size. He even said he had 6 left if I wanted to buy them. I will just keep the 2055 on til the next oil change. He even told me they are going back to the 5000 mile oil change interval. Please dont flame me on this one that's what they put on my sticker.

I have read a bunch of dealers telling guys the oil interval is 5k. I wonder if a TSB is coming out or if this is just the dealers trying to increase service intervals. I get that various types of driving require oil to be changed more often, but seems a bit funny.

Unless the dealer provides an extended warranty on their terms, then yes.

Otherwise they're trying to increase sales in their service department.

The EcoBoost has an active oil viscosity monitoring system. It would be pointless for Ford to invest money in a monitoring system when you should get your oil changed every 5000 miles.

I just did my first oil change yesterday and installed a FL-2055.I hadn't seen this thread before or heard of the 2055's getting discontinued until now.I'm kind of bummed.I liked the extra capacity of the 2055's and I didn't see any fitment issues.Apparently large oil filters aren't necessary on newer engines. The oil filter on my nephews Nissan Titan 5.6 is a lot smaller than a FL-500.
