LOL....I too just had the factory filter changed to a new FL2055 at about 1k miles and have two observations
  1. Clearance is VERY tight around the filter with about 1/2 inch to nearest lines, but they do not touch...and it is BIG for only holding .2 additional quarts.
  2. Another thread here is about oil pressure being "above center" on the gauge and indeed mine is....wonder if the different filter has/had any effect on that....didnt notice one way or the other before the change....pressure is good....smile
As an old Vette guy, I can attest that at idle, pressure runs about the middle of the indicator, but at speed pressure increases up to or near max reading (60 - 80psi) so MIDDLE does not have the real impact that one would draw that "middle is good". I dwell on the truth that "low is always bad".....smile....

From my previous exp. with FORD S/D's they use a pressure switch. So if the switch is set to read a minimum of say 7 lbs then it will show oil pressure but not how much so your oil gage isn't an actual meter it just says you have pressure not how much. Please correct me if Ford does it differently now.

Actually, I thought Wix supplied most of the major auto makers in the US ?

Hi guys. We just picked up our EcoBoost F-150 this week and love it.

Regarding the oil filter, I contacted Royal Purple to see if they will be offering an oil filter for the FL2055. Champ Labs manufactures Royal Purple, K&N and bunch of other oil filter brands. The person at Royal Purple contacted Champ Labs about this is his response:

It looks like it's not a big deal and I bet Champ Labs, which makes like 80% of the world's oil filters, probably won't even begin making the FL-2055 oil filter any time soon.

I would be interested to see the comparison between the Royal Purple's innards and the Motorcraft FL-2055's innards since both filters use a synthetic medium, while everyone else uses paper. Thankfully O'Reilly sells the FL-2055 for $8 and not the $22 you'll pay at the dealer, but I'm going to go with the 20-500 Royal Purple filter.

Tulsapete thank you for putting this info out! I like others who have switched to the 2055 are pretty ticked about the design snafu. Well my dealer did not have a clue about this matter like many others i'm sure. I printed your post with the Distribution Bulletin and faxed it to them coz if its not in writing its nothing. At first some tech told them the 2055 should be fine. I told them a Ford engineering team who designs these puts out documentation to remove this p/n and you're telling me some tech says it will be fine? They took the matter up to the Service Boss and he said take care of him at once. So I will be going there next week to get a new/old filter installed. I have to cancel my GAP n Ext Warranty anyway I just paid it off.

Perhaps the Engineers/Ford decided to go back to the Fl500 due to the unnecessary cost to the customer and unnecessary production cost after they realized they did not need the 2055 due to the faulty testing that was stated earlier. Not that there is an inherent defect with the 2055, after all they went to the trouble to put an addendum in the owners manual stating specifically to change to the 2055. We put a lot of faith in the Engineers, Im sure they tested out the 2055 before going so big with its recommendation. After all, the 3.5 V6 has been marketed as the flagship engine of this line. I doubt they would blindly insist on an unproven critical component. YMMV.

You're probably right. I was hyperbolizing. You can see the brands made by Champ Labs on their website @ champlabs . com

This is just your take on the matter. If you are correct about this please confirm it with something more than just an opinion. Believe me if the 2055 will be fine and they are only removing it to save unnecessary cost I will leave it on til the next oil change. Read the Distribution Bulletin it states: "Ford Engineering Teams identified fit issues in using the FL2055, and have decided to discontinue this part number." That alone is enough to get me to change it because i don't want to possibly regret that i did not.

Of course this is my take and opinion. Pure speculation. Wish I could help you with facts but aside from what you already know, what the my dealer told me is that, and he was reading from a bulletin text when he told me, it "may not meet customers expectations." Pretty open to interpretation which sucks I know. Have the 2055 on mine and just rolled into Chicago with no issues so far. I have a friend who is a mazda engineer here in the D. Maybe he can pull some strings in getting an answer.
