filter
I kinda got a surprise when I changed my oil in my eco. The 2055 and 7 quarts of oil from ford was $57. and some change. I did it my self. I don't know who ford has putting on the oil filters, but I ripped part of the end off with a filter wrench because of it's being so tight. Very awkward to get too. You have to drop part of the front shield and a square rubber piece under the oik plug. Be prepared for a little shock. The oil smells like it has some gas in it. I'm told this is normal with a turbo.

Subject:EFC00063DC New Part Number FL2055, 2011 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost Oil Filter
INTRODUCING THE FL2055
Motorcraft is pleased to announce the availability of the FL2055. This all new oil filter is the service filter for the 2011 model year F-150, 3.5L Ecoboost engine.
All 2011 F-150 trucks equipped with a 3.5L Ecoboost engine were produced with a small diameter (77mm/3 inch) oil filter. The service replacement oil filter, the FL2055, is a larger diameter (94mm/3.75inch) filter. The FL2055 has significantly higher filtration efficiency and capacity than most other oil filters and is designed for added engine protection and long life. For proper engine maintenance, a FL2055 oil filter or an equivalent filter meeting Ford material and design specifications must be used.
If a replacement oil filter is installed that does not meet Ford specifications, engine damage may occur which may not be eligible for warranty coverage. The oil capacity for the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost engine with the FL2055 oil filter is 6.2 quarts (5.9L).

Maybe they should have taken this as an opportunity, on the same memo, to [also] remind the dealers of the 5-30w oil for these motors?
When I was waiting for my truck to be repaired last Tuesday, I wandered back to the oil change bays and inquired of the two primary oil change tech's, if they had the 5-30 in stock for use in the new EB motors?
Both looked surprised at my question and obviously were not aware of this change (from the long standard 5-20w) and also offered that they had not had an EB in for service yet; nor were they aware that they had any at the dealership as of yet. I informed them that there was one EB out on the back lot. One tech said to me, let's go look. We walked out to the truck and he opened the hood and discovered what I already knew; the truck oil filler cap said 5-30w.
He then said, wow, this is good to know, I will discuss it with the service manager. Right then, I understood how the other member had his EB truck filled with 5-20!

oil change
My truck only had about 700 miles on it when I changed it. I had 2 reasons for this, one I wanted the most protection I could get and when I read about the better oil filter I thought why go through break in with an oil filter of less quality. Two probably nothing to in but I read an article in popular mechanics by a guy who suggested that when you buy a new vehicle drive it 20 miles and change the oil, then drive it another 1000 and change the oil. He said even if the company dyno's it and then changes the oil. He said it gets all the debris from factory and the immediated engine wear out. He stated look at your oil when you change and you will see why.

The original filter was made by another company and apparently they changed it already and it may have had something to do with what you experienced.
The new filter is high dollar because of full synthetic media and I believe Donaldson makes the filter for Ford. Donaldson also makes Amsoil's EAO line of filters.
Now on the fuel smell, that is normal for any direct injected gasoline engine. I am really curious to see how well the EB does with deposits in the intake and how bad the oil gets washed down with fuel. I know that they Audi/Volkswagen/Mazda DISI engines really like Rotella 5w40 oils for diesels as it offsets the fuel dilution well. Schaeffer's 9000 series oils do to.....haven't seen much on Penzoil Ultimate, but I would guess it would get the job done as well.
I would like to see a UOA done on a Ecoboost engine

I have had multiple UOA done by Blackstone labs, and I will be getting several done on the Ecoboost as well. Interesting you say that the new 2055 filter has synthetic media just like the Amsoil EAO series. I have used the EAO Amsoil filters on my Ducati to great success. I'm all for the highest degree of protection from an oil filter, I just think it's a shame that on a truck like an F-150 the price has to be so high - I could understand if we were driving a Benz or Ferrari, but a US made work truck?!

The EAO's are high priced for what they are....I would say give it 6 months and the price might come down on them, if not pm me and I can put together a filter package that will beat your local dealers.
Keep us posted on the UOA's though, I use Blackstone for mine as well

I'm not farmiliar with Dyson. I just sent off another sample to Blackstone last week. I'll have to research Dyson and possibly use them next time. Thanks for the tip.
