Ecoboost intake valve build up fix???
#12
Not aware of those fixes. I know 2017 is the first year of the Ford F150 EcoBoost that combines direct injection with port injection. So it seems it must have been a pretty big issue for them to make this change.

I've never seen an ecoboost with valves that bad, nor even close. Ford uses a reversion process that sprays fuel on the valves on the exhaust stroke. Those look like valves from an early DI motor. I don't think you have to worry about it and water meth is more work with little payback on the ecoboost...
I think a lot of this nonsense has to do with that ford tech guy. Muaculoko or something.
Watch his video again. The vehicle he shows is a malfunctioning engine (he admits it) of something not even offered in our trucks. It's smoke and mirrors.

Snobdds is correct. On a properly functioning 3.5 ecoboost fuel does indeed wash the valves as part of the egr system.

Going to stick with "say no" to this unless you want higher performance for short periods of time an properly tune for only that, it just isn't a daily driver 150,000 mile add on and using it for short periods of time or even hours it will not clean baked on carbon off intake valves. The OEM addition of port injection is to deliver enough fuel at the right time to get the increased reliable torque the new engine needs. Keeping the valves cleaner is secondary.

When my engine had to be replaced at 49k miles due to broken piston skirt the valves were not dirty at all, I was actually surprised how clean they were. No catch can.

Well I have new plugs, 2 new coils, and 4 new boots. No misfire, but on cold start I have a rough ish idle until the motor gets up to operating temp. After researching I found that dirty valves is generally the diagnosis for this problem.
If I can't seafoam it that means I have to pull the upper intake manofold and clean the valves manually if I want the cold start idle smoothed out. Plus should gain mpg, and power from going from one extreme to the other.
My 2013 has 104k miles.

Seafoam is a bad idea on new engines. The rough idle during warmup is normal.
