Default Ecoboost Gas??

Has anyone noted any significant difference in the performance of their truck by putting in a higher octane gas?

I know my wifes 06 Durango w/ Hemi calls for 89 octane and i can tell a difference when she fills up w/ 87 octane.

Here in TX we have 87, 89, and 93. I haven't ventured to try 93 yet, but I went with 87 for the first few tanks and all was good. It was 100 degrees at least everyday for the first month I owned the truck so I bumped it up to 89 and got about .5 mpg better and there is a slight seat of the pants difference. Not anything spectacular, but I'm sure I would notice if I went back down to 87.

I used 93 the first 2,000 miles. I have used 87 the last 800. I cannot tell a difference daily driving. Towing 7k lbs, i might give 93 a slight edge but probably not worth the extra cost.

as an aside, i tried the whole 100% gas and the gas blend with 10% ethanol over two tanks each with similar driving....i actually got a touch better with the blended gas, which at least tells me the 100% gas is not worth the $.20 more per gallon or 6.5% increase in the cost.

My experience with e10 was the exact opposite of KG. On a recent 4200mile roadtrip I averaged 23.7mpg with real gas. I got 2 tanks of e10 (e15?) in North Dakota. On those tanks I averaged 14.8 mpg. The truck seemed louder, seemed to run rough, and overall felt like it needed to go to the nearest dealer. I was glad to see the Montana border where I could get non-e10. I'm not trying to pick a fight here, just reporting what I saw and felt. I run 87 here at home and it does just fine. I haven't noticed a huge gain with 91 or 93 while unloaded.

E10/15 has a lower btu content and can not get as good or better mileage than 100% gas, unless the engine calibration is affected (it is not). Even the EPA admits that 100% gas gets about 5% better mileage.

When my truck was stock there was no measurable difference in gas 87 vs 93. Since the Injen intake and Heartthrob exhaust, 93 seems to average about 2mpg better in town and hwy, and of course there is my ***-dyno telling me that there is more power. I hand calculate my mpg's every tank so I am sure that my numbers are correct.

I doubt anyone can feel a difference between 87 or 93! It takes about 25-30hp to feel, sorry your not getting that with just a gas change.

Blended gas with ethanol will NOT increase your mpg, it decreases it by at least 1mpg, you are either a corn farmer or just don't know what you are talking about
