Default Ecoboost Engine in Racing

Looks like Ford is putting some money and promotion behind next years Daytone Prototype sports car racing with Michael Shank racing.

Here is the link for it http://www.racer.com/ford-confirms-e...rticle/314145/

Michael Shank told me the block and heads are coming right off of the production floor of where they make the passenger 3.5 engine.

Hopefully, this is a great learning tool for Ford to make these engines even better.

I've been trying hard to get in contact with someone over there that might point me towards what they did for fuel.
I'm also curious about what HP levels they are at.

Unless something changed Roush/Yates will be providing the engines. Class rules limit it to 3.2L and 400HP. If I remember correctly it will be destroked to 3.2L and leaving bore alone.

Yeah, those cars don't make a ton of power.

If got a couple of calls into people I know that would have some more information. The problem is that the regulations for the Prototype cars is not set in stone yet and could change. If I hear anything more, I'll post.

400hp in a car this light puts a fantastic HP to weight ratio in and these cars hustle along quite well. Too bad the Ford designed car looks like a piece of crap, but we will see it's performance next Wednesday, when they are going to attempt to break the lap record at Daytona (around 210mph)

I'd guess that the lap record (average speed) for a DP car is not even close to 200mph. They use the infield. Looks like they average about 130mph.

They may be able to hit 210mph on the banking.....maybe. But I find even that unlikely in 24hr trim (downforce set up for the infield). Looks like last years cars went about 195mph top speed.

Wonder if they will race near semis in the rain. I'm glad Ford is pushing this motor so well. It's a performer and I've had no issues with mine, but everyday there seems to be more people reporting the stall/stumble issue. I hope they are actively addressing that issue first. I would hate to see a repeat of lemon buybacks like what happened with the 6.0l powerstroke.

I think they are just using the oval, not the road course. trim them out and they can hit that no problem. Look at the speeds they hit on the straight at LeMans.
