Yes mine does smell more, but it doesn`t bother me, that`s just nature of the beast when there is no catalytic converters.

As I stated earlier...I got the MAK Performance Catted downpipe. Hasn't happened yet, but down the road I am expecting to see a check engine light from the cat sensor downstream from a bit dirtier exhaust. With a tune, the tunes can turn off I believe 420 and 430 codes. That way the check engine light will not be firing up. So far no check engine light.

Why? You did not remove the catalytic converter.

Although our high flow cats are 49 state smog legal, they still flow more than the factory cats, therefore the sensors still read out of range from what they are commanded from the factory triggering the CEL. Some people have the light come on instantly others go a few months without a light. Due to the unpredictability we always recommend a custom tune be used in conjunction with any of our downpipes for the best results.

All that means is the catalyst converter you use doesn't work well enough. Select an appropriate cat and the sensor won't throw codes.

So you might as well just go catless.

Pretty much. Or buy a different brand because that is not a universal problem.

A catalytics job is to reduce emmissions and pass emmissions testing, our Cats are 49-state and Canada emissions legal as stated before. With our cats you can pass emmissions anywhere except California. The only cat guaranteed to keep the CEL off are the Green Cats from Kooks and they come with a hefty price tag. It would make the Y-pipe cost 3x as much as it does now. We also offer our pipe with green cats via special order for those who would like it setup that way.

I agree that you may as well go catless, that is what we recommend 100% of the time. Afterall this is a performance part, in the business of making horsepwoer, the best cat is no cat. However we understand that some states require emissions testing so we offer an alternative solution so those customers can have their cake and eat it too.

I've seen where spark plug anti-foulers have been used to spoof the secondary O2 sensors on VW/Audi stuff. They move the O2 sensor far enough from the exhaust to make it seem clean enough.

A high flow cat will still burn the unburnt fuel. The smell wont be as bad also. You can pass inspection in most places.

There are reasons for it.

But if I am doing all this work, I am going catless
