I had never heard of a catch can before buying my Ecoboost. But after reading about them on this forum I decided to google search catch cans and there are forums everywhere that argue whether or not they are beneficial. I am 70/30 on buying one but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I plan on keeping this truck for 10+ years so it seems like a cheap addition compared to what a lot of people spend just on lifts and other accessories. I do like to hear both sides of the argument but it starts to get old after a while. Every single forum or article I read has shown no definitive proof that a catch can does or does not work. Maybe I'll be that guy in 10 years that says "I should have bought a catch can" or "what a waste of money the catch can was".

I will be puting a catch can on my truck.

With that being said, The Ecoboost cleans the valves via reversion of the intake charge during deceleration.

There is a tech paper floating around somewhere on the net on how this works. I read it a year or so ago.

If this is the case, then what purpose does a catch can really provide?

Every car gets build up on the valves, whether direct injection or not. It has proven to be a non issue.

I want to see what happens to these trucks with catch cans when the rain comes. If they're brave enough to post up the results, only time will tell.

I'll start with an admission. In baiting you with this question. So think through the answer and it's implications clearly before answering

Is it true that the catch can fills faster in cold weather?

Hahahaha - on pins and needles.

All I know is that mine catches a lot of yellow stuff on top of the clear stuff.

I want to run a catch can to keep most of that stuff out of my intake tract.

Just like I did on my 7.3

And on our Mini cooper,
And on our Mazdaspeed3,

And on just about every other Turbo car I will ever get.

If you don't agree that it is keeping stuff out of the engine, than that is just fine, but you can't deny that it is keeping it out of the rest of the system.

I don't see the big conspiracy these guys have going! hah!
