3" exhausts

3" exhausts
I'm a believer in 3" exhausts like the Full Race. I do tow a few thousand lbs sometimes so I want low end power and quiet cruising with no drone. Has anyone tried anything other than the expensive full race? I've been looking at the MBRP, which is considerably cheaper. Even if it drones, 5 star makes a 3" resonator. I ruled out the Banks Power and AFE 3" exhausts because they connect behind the factory resonator. Has anyone had experience with cheaper 3" exhausts like the MBRP? Thanks.

Not to mention, it is still free-flowing. Any Free-flow cat-back system will be somewhat loud in my opinoin.
It is VERY hard to find a decent muffler shop that does clean/straight installation with good welds but if you can find one I would go that route for a quieter free-flowing system for less $$ and you can get the shop to do Stainless as well.
10' of stainless is roughly ~$100
30" stainless resonator was ~$150
14" stainlesss resonator was ~$120
Stainless hangers ~$unknown
= Custom, Quiet, Stainless Cat-back.
If you want mandrel bent, I am sure that a company will sell you the over-the-axle stainless tubing for not that much (hopefully).
this is all in 4" too, so 3" may be cheaper (although I think 4" is a deeper tone?).

Gibson has been making catbacks for towing for over 20 years and they have a 3" for the F150. It is a chambered muffler so I don't know its performance, but I had one on my 99 Ranger and it was quiet. Corsa also has one.
I finally went with the Full-Race and am very happy with it. Will take a tow trip in 9 days.

10-15HP
Hearthrob got something crazy like 37HP but that is a 4" exhaust. It is fairly quiet as it is an actual muffler and not a resonator from what I've gathered.

Keepin' the lights on!
I had the 4" AFE and it connected to the downpipe. It was decently quiet at first but then got very loud once "burned in." So, I replaced the AFE resonator with a 14" and 30" Magnaflow(s) and the thing is nearly stock quiet even with downpipes.
Not to mention, it is still free-flowing. Any Free-flow cat-back system will be somewhat loud in my opinoin.

I would go gibson exept they only offer a system for the supercrew. I could have it modified tho. Honestly, the MBRP aluminized is $320 and the stainless 409 is $100 more. That's a pretty smoking deal I think. Thanks for all the input and I'm still open to further ideas.

I found this on another site and it sounds pretty good for a turbo v6. imo. I think I'm going to pick one up. I found the aluminized for $300 shipped.

IMHO, the aluminized version will sound "tin-like". Try to go stainless if want any type of low notes. I've had my solo performance mach-x for about 4K miles now and it sounds great, to me.
It has a nice lowend depth at idle and a unique WOT sound. I need to get another sound clip up as it has mellowed and deepened quite a bit. They also offer a quiter muffler if needed.
