Impossible, no. Skeptical, yes very much so. My ecoboost is stupid quite so i could definitly see where there is a potential for hidden power. Just with a cat back? Maybe the down pipe as well but i cant see this with just a cat back.

If anything fuel consumption will go down slightly... Engines need air+spark+fuel... Add more of one and then there is a slightly larger demand for the other, with more/better air flow then there will be a need for more fuel.

Here are the pickuptrucks dyno results for comparison.

Initial:

After working with Ford engineers, K&N, and the SuperFlow dyno guys, they got these results:
Hearthrobs ain't no better. The problem that pickuptrucks.com had was that the low end torque of the ecoboost wasn't showing on the dyno. Hearthrobs is the same way. It doesn't start showing torque until 3000 rpm (thats where the graph starts). well ford says 90% of peak torque at 1700 rpm. That is what pickuptrucks.com was trying to show. Readers that actually TOW something wanted to see the low end torque.
So what makes you say hearthrob has such clean dyno runs? I don't see any low end on there, do you?

You are right about the low-end torque, but PUTdotCOM also talked quite a bit in the article about difficulty in getting good dyno runs beyond the low-end torque issue.

They discussed throttle tip in, torque converter issues, trying to keep the engine computer for cam and spark timing in their sweet spots, etc. Perhaps it really isn't all that difficult, but they certainly made it seem like the numbers could easily be tweaked with nothing more than how quickly you mash the gas!

I suspect that all depends on your right foot

If you drive normally, I'd say it will be better.

But if you get into the sound, it could get much, much worse

Now, all they have to do is get it certified by Ford as warranty-friendly. That would be a huge bonus in their favor.

Ford should come up with a certification program for mods for this engine based on how picky it appears they are going to be. Some sort of symbol with "Ford EcoBoost Certified" under it.

Hell, it works for computers

I can't tell but it looks like the exhaust they used had a cat converter delete. That is something im not willing to do. Id be interested to see what a cat back would do though.

Yeah, not gonna happen. If that's the case, they should have been more informative about that. I'm less thrilled now.
