Ecoboost with 5 Star Turbo issue?

Yea a boost gauge would be very helpfull!! I'm going to try a different dealer tomorrow if i get a chance and see what they say. No I don't hear any popping from exhaust that remember

Complain about it stuttering at speed and say you hear there was a tsb for a reflash. There have been several newer flashes since 2011. Mine was horrible, as bad or worse than yours (heard more because of my intake). Now I here it very very seldom, it's not even something I can recreate. If it is really cold and higher than normal elevation on just the right hill in just the right gear it will do it. Lol.

better looking than geno
Same reason the boost gauge would be helpful, I was thinking maybe wastegate soldnoid is making the wastegates go crazy. This just started right? Of the miles on the tune, percent of time?

Not sure what you mean? Miles on the tune, percent of time? It has probably been going on for a good 4 months but wasnt driving truck too much before but now I drive everyday, usually with a trailer and its just anoying! It only happens when going up hills or just when the truck should gear down. In stock the truck climbs hills in 6th with no problem(depending on grade of course!!)

Put about 10000km on since tune and not really sure if it did it when i first put in cause I could have been on the gas a little more and it wouldn't have happened!!!!! I didnt really notice for a couple months after installed

Keepin' the lights on!
My EB also does this with the 5* tune.
At first it didn't do it at all with the 87 p/t tune. Ran perfect for months. Then I decided to run the 91 p/t. That tune was screwed from the start so I swapped back to the 87p/t and thats when it started doing it.
It's called compressor surge (or turbo surge, turbo stall). It happens when the turbo compresses too much air and instead of the BOV releasing the air, it escapes past the compressor wheel. It is kinda hard on turbo shafts. Anyone that has towed with a 7.3 powerstroke that had a tune + CAI knows what I'm taking about.
I talked to Mike about it too. He told me the same thing and sent me a new file but it was no better. I can run the SCT tunes and it very rarely does that. Even less now that I have the Ford update. Mike was supposed to send me new files after the update but he never did. So I think I'm done with that option.
OP- I would recommend you remove that tune and try the SCT tunes or go stock. I would also press Ford for an update. After that, you could try it but I feel the problem is with how their tunes hold a gear + extra boost but not enough rpm to keep said boost post turbo. Someday I may try another custom tune from someone else. For now, the SCT 91 has been working good.

I have reloaded the SCT tunes and they dont do it like 5star tune.
I also reloaded the SCT to see if the cold start is better then on the canned tunes. With the custom tunes i have to let the truck warm up, if i dont the trucks idle is all over the place when i come to a stop. And while obviously letting the truck idle in the frigud cold temps we were experiencing did wonders for my mpg's
So its SCT tunes till my next service apt. Then i will retry the custom tunes and see what is what and email mike @ 5star for some changes to the tunes.(hopefully)

I am still deciding on which custom tuner to go with and this really gives me pause about 5*. Up until now most guys rave about 5* and Mike. Is this issue isolated to just a handful of guys or does the surging happen just due to the 5* tune? Does it happen with all of 5*'s tunes or just certain ones?
