Is the Eco worth 3K more than 5.0
#11
I guess for me I had followed my fun factor. I had driven both truck identical trucks with the same package but with the 3.5l v6 tt and 5.0l v8. both were great trucks. I only paid $1,000 more for the ecoboost truck back in September when the dealership was offering lots of rebates and when I traded off my POS dodge ram with the 4.7l that was horrible on gas. Bottom line my new truck with 10 miles on the odometer that went for $41,000 I had got for a little over $25,000 so I felt that I had a win win situation. Good luck on your choice.

I would say that its up to you and your wants and needs. If you want the eco but dont need it and dont think the extra money is worth it to you then go 5.0. If you have spent any time on here reading everyone is happy with both. You will still get in the high teens on the highway with the 5.0.
Just dont sound desperate with the dealer. You can get under the rebate price, its just going to take some time and negotiating maybe a comment of checking out other dealers or other brands just remember when you say "I will do it if it this price" they will probably come back with it and wont go anywhere else. I had a friend that bought his 09 in 09 when they changed the body style to what it is no wait a week before he signed. His stickered 42K truck for 29,500. They acted like he was Crazy until he said "well thats what i can go buy a chevy across the street for" and walked out. He told them to call him if they figured it out. 3 days later they said ok and when he got there they had it at 29,547 and he started to go again till they took the 47 off the end. Remember that $47 is alot easier for them to loose than it is for you. Dealers EARN their business!

It really doesn't matter, both engines are solid and will put a smile on your face. If you really want a twin turbo then you know what you have to do.
Good luck, I got a stock FX2 turbo with 70mo premium warranty and spray in liner for $30k OTD.
They most likely are willing to deal being the end of the month and all as well.

When I bought my truck the Eco's were all higher end models - lariats and such vs the XLT.
$7000 price difference! I wanted the XLT so I did not pursue the reasons behind the pricing difference
IMO, Ford is playing some marketing tricks. I think the tow rating on the Eco is falsely inflated. I may be wrong here - there is no HD tow package for the XLT? To get a "heavy hauling" F150 you have to buy the Eco.
Why not offer the big tow rating for the XLT?

If you plan to offroad and install big tires, I would go with the 5.0 as the Eco is very sensitive to gearing changes. The two engines are only 1 mpg apart, but the 5.0 could be better under some circumstances. Unless you plan to go over, say 8500lb for towing, you don't need Max Tow. I have the EB and love it, but am sticking with stock tire sizes and got Max Tow because I have a 5th wheel in my future.

The 5.oL is built in Canada, the 3.5L is built in Cleveland. If you tow in mountains turbo, if you tow out east 5.0. Everywhere else 5.4. 5.4 is built in Michigan. All Alluminum and all are Flame-Spray cylinder liners for efficiency and perfect cyl.

Go there and get your info. I don't want this to come off as rude, so please don't take it that way. But, a lot of people look at a grand here or there as a deal breaker but are paying close to sticker. If you can get 6 or 7 grand off to begin with, that premium for the Eco is much easier to handle.
For example, my sticker was 41,xxx. After getting my info from truecar.com, I was able to walk in and START are just above dealer cost. Make sure you click on the Locate Dealers thing, sign in and print off your paper. Yes, the salesman will look at you like you are crazy and their job is to not let you get the truck for that price. It took me six hours total between test drive, bargaining back and forth on my trade in, other negotiables I wanted, etc. but I walked out with the price I wanted, 1000 cash and a $500 gas card. I paid 33,100 on mine.
Good luck.

I have the eco. I love the eco. If the eco was going to cost me 3k more I'd be driving a 5.0 without question. The engines are close in mpg. The eco has a performance and towing advantage, but unless you are planning on towing a lot of heavy trailers I'd go 5.0 and sink 3k into some aftermarket goodies or a nice used quad.

Thanks for the quick responses. I should have clarified a few more things. I know the difference is not 3k alone. The reason I got to that number is because right now I only qualify for $2500 in rebates on the Eco and $4000 on the 5.0 (Ford apparently has a few more 5.0's and wants to move them). Right there is $1500 difference. Then if you add the $800 for the Eco you are at 2300. I was also including the max package because if I go that way I might as well get the extra towing capacity. I know the stock Eco tows 9500lbs vs. the 9100lbs on the 5.0. By jumping up to the max package you go to 11,200lbs on the Eco. So you are right, apples to apples the difference including the current rebates is only $2300. That being said, which direction would you go and why?
Thanks again
Thanks again
It's all personal preference if getting the eco is worth that much to you. (It wasn't worth it to me at $1250, it certainly wouldn't be at double that much.)
