If you adjust a iridium tip spark plug the old school way, like a copper tip, it will be damaged. Just don't touch the center tip, its too fine and will break. There are a couple good instructional videos from NGK and Autolite on YouTube.

I would guess the manual states that because of some people who use the gap gauge as a pry bar between the centre and ground electrodes. Definitely not the right way to open up the gap! You've got a good chance of completely bitching the centre electrode of you do that. My gauge (Mac tools) has a "window" that you hook on the ground electrode only and leverage off the ground electrode itself to open the gap.

Pouring rain all day today. Went on a work shopping trip to the nearest city. There is one hill along the way that it always got the shudder on.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Just climbed its way up in 6th without a glitch!
I really hope this is gone now. I think if it does develop the shudder again, I'll get a new set to have on hand but will certainly be checking the gap again.

Hmmm not had any problems. But will give them check tomorrow see if any need to be brought down. So long as rain holds off.

Still don't understand one thing. Sorry to sound dumb. But if I buy new replacement plugs based on what owners manual tells me will they automatically have the optimum gap we are looking for or will they need to be adjusted. Would like to just buy new plugs that are ready to be installed and don't need to be tinkered with. I'll read the entire thread again also in case this has already been mentioned. Thanks

It would be a good idea to check the gap before installing new plugs. Just buy a plug gapper. Gapping plugs may be the simplest job that you do on your truck. It's easier than removing or installing plugs.

Yeah I am seeing the other brands and part numbers now. I am running a Livernois tune and will probably set them around .032. Question though on how truck will run if I ever go back to just stock tune then. Seems gapping them down is mostly for those of us running tunes. Will the truck still run okay flashing back to stock with this smaller gap?

Shouldn't be a problem. There are some here who have regapped without a tune with good results.
