yea its just an observation. all motors will soot up according to state of tune and fuel mapping. I've owned two 2011 Mustang 5.0 both 6 speed one 3.55 one 3.73 I drove them both hard. The tips got black but nothing like the one on my e/b.

I also have the chrome tip and it looks similar to it. I've been running 89 octane until last week. I filled up with 87 for the first time.

The soot is also a trade off of DI.

There is another thread about smoke coming out of the tailpipe on cold start.
I stated there that I had a mazda with the grandaddy to EB engine.
(2.3 turbo)
That thing would thow so much soot on cold start it looked like black snow.
I had it checked and they said it was normal.
Never a problem except for the black o ring.
I would suspect the same thing here.
Probably sooting up on cold start.

Totally normal on DI engines, if you clean it often you can keep your tips looking clean but its a real pain. I gave up after a few months.

It is normal, and as easy as I have been driving mine, it puts out a big puff of black smoke on the 1st startup of the day. It has been reduced by a few full throttle pulls on every tank. It was even noted on the tear-down of the famous test engine that ran the Baja, etc. The owner of the dealership I by from, Bill at North Bay Ford, told me the engine was meant to be driven hard. But of course, that clashes with fuel economy......
