Eco-rich
Just noticed how black and sooty my exhaust tip has gotten. It has a black ring around the tip. I haven't noticed any black smoke that some have mentioned of. I have 1537 miles i have a 20 minute city commute to work n back. I don't baby it, I put over 500 highway miles last weekend. I run 87 octane all the time. I've owned several turbo-diesels in the past and the black build up is just about the same. I am not real worried about it because it is running great and mileage is decent when my right foot is not so heavy, I posted in an earlier thread. Any others in the black?

It does seem a little crusty. I've had barely anything to wipe off on mine. I ran 87 for the first 1k and super since with no change.
If all is well then wash it off and get truckin.

Mine looks the same. I have the black build up ad well. My 10 5.4 looked the same. I was hoping with some miles she would lean out a bit and in turn get some better MPG.

Thanks Blueoval28 just making sure mine wasn't alone. Maybe that's why it runs strong because being d/i it gives it a rich charge of fuel with the forced induction when you get on it.

Mine is the same at 800 miles. I have towed 8200lbs twice with it, 2000+ lbs several times so mine is seeing some work.
Read that Ford keeps them rich for several thousand mile so that they run cooler and break in gently

I have confirmed using the factory widebands that the truck does NOT run rich once warmed up, even with less than 1000 miles on the odo. However, it does seem to dump in a ton of fuel on cold-start. I can't verify using the WB's because this is before they warm up and become functional. I suspect this has something to do with lighting off the cats.
