EB overheats when towing - solutions?
2011 EB, 58k miles, 3.55 rear, 5* 87 PT tune w/91 octane. Towing ~8000 lb toy hauler in hot (100 degree) dry weather and was able to heat soak the motor while climbing 2 hills on the highway near home. Each hill is 1-2 miles long, moderate grades, not super steep, but still make the truck work. I was running around 55 or so uphill. Didn't really seem to matter if 3rd or 4th gear, and I had to drop to 50 MPH on 2nd hill to manage temps. Both times I got an engine overtemp alert on the screen. It cools right down when I crest the hill and the turbos get a break.
Thoughts on solutions? Aftermarket IC?
Thanks!
Mike

Wagner IC, thermostat, tow tune

I suspect your tune is the culprit. Unless it is a tow tune, it can do that.

It's probably your tune. A colder thermostat just opens the thermostat sooner but does not increase your cooling systems ability to remove heat. It will give you a short amount of time longer before you get an over heat message because of a lower starting temperature. This would just be a band aid to an underlying problem.
I live in an area where bugs are prevalent so I would blow out my radiator. Second thing I would do is add some sort of water wetting agent, like water wetter. Third thing would be to consider upgrading the IC. These are assuming removing the tune didn't fix the issue.

Is it possible the tune is a little lean? Might verify that you actually have a tow tune and not a hotter performance tune.

If u don't have the trany cooler added on your radiator get one. With out one the radiator soaks all that trans heat into coolant and trans can het so hot. If u didn't get a tow option on your EB u should really consider UR destruction options.
