E85 in the 5.0, anyone actually use it?
I'm just curious if anyone has used E85, and what the results are. I've heard all the myths/horror stories about corrsosion, cost outweighing benefits, etc.
Gas prices have soared here in MN in the past few weeks, 2 refineries are shut down for maintenace near Chicago apparently. Love my truck but experiencing just a tad bit of buyer's remorse.
FWIW I've averaged about 18.3 MPG in a 60/40 mix of highway/city driving since March with E10, it is hard to find ethanol free gas here anymore.

it sucks
I ran it for 3 tanks, 73 gallons, a total of 1046 miles. There is not a significant difference in performance if you are running a stock tuned vehicle. It may feel peppier and pull a little harder on the top end bit for day to day driving I couldn't tell a difference other than less mileage. If I recall it was .$35 cents cheaper than 87 $8.50 less after filling the tank back up. I also lost 50 miles per tank of gas. I rune a 93 tune now and 93 only. Never tried E85 again.

I have calculated it various times and when you consider mileage loss verses E10 the E85 stuff has to cost $1 a gallon less to break even. So if E85 happens to be $1 a gallon + less than E10 it is worth it to use it. This refinery BS is a weak excuse. In Omaha fuel shot up 70 cents a gallon in a week.

E85 is a nice boost in power Ive been running it for 6 months. It comes in around 105 octane so I'm sure your 100 tune would be fine. I've tried em all and 87 or 89 VS E85 is significantly more powerful no comparison.

I would like to know if you have the same feelings today as you did then.

E85 comes on strongest in very hot weather. Try it on a 100 degree plus day. You will immediately notice the increase of torque

I am loving it right now. its $2.25 87 @ $2.75 and I do all city driving so mileage is not as big of a deal. I can really feel it. engine seems to run smoother to.
