Never been a fan of them for power, I always try and find one that has better filtration but adds no extra sound. At most I would spend $50 for a fitler with better parameters than stock, but still nothing on my truck.
Cool video tho, proves why you see people buying AFE/air raid kits and then have them for sale weeks later.
EDIT: Maybe I should route my AC to my engine, wondering how much difference it would make lmao

I agree with this. BUT during my dyno session we bolted up my intake just for ****s and giggles and it actually made power over the stock air box with a K/N filter. Enough so that Geoff with full race is revisiting the idea of an intake. It surprised us all

If my truck had a V8 I'd put a CAI on it just because I like the sound on a V8. I don't dare to put one on my Eco because I probably wouldn't like the sound.

I put one on my truck so I could install my mustang 5.0 engine cover, and It really sounds awesome. Power increase I cant tell, but it cleaned up my engine bay look and allowed me to install the cover, also cleaned up my wallet 198 dollars, lol but I love the look and sound Ive got. I have never expected a 20% increase and we all know that is just marketing or I would like to think so.

There is definitely a marketing aspect to them. At Pepboys the other day I saw a CAI that said (up to) 69hp gains on the box! You just cannot expect that.
I happen to love the sound from my Volant, so I don't feel I'm out the money. If there were gains, though, I never noticed.

Most impressive to me was the fact that running a factory filter produced just as much power as running no filter. They could have stopped right there. That explains why so many guys report power or mpg loss when using a 'high performance' aftermarket filter. If the factory filter is equal to no filter, a replacement can offer no improvement.
