Gen 8 now?
Didn't SSI start out making fun of Livernois because they had a tune called v10 (which was really only their 3rd performance tune released to the public?)
How many tune versions has Shawn had now? Before the current "Gen" format there was a bunch too, gen change and charges are faster than any other company.

Well if you do not do the job correctly the first time....or second time.....or even by attempt 7....you just keep pumping out garbage and maybe with enough blown engines, etc by fluke you will eventually get it at least close.
Like a weatherman.....make enough guesses and eventually you get a day where the weather actually resembles your guess.

SSI has had at least 20 publicly released tune revisions, many of which required paid upgrades, since what - 2012? In the early days, SSI mercilessly made fun of Livernois for putting out revision after revision ( free revisions, none the less ) and that it was a sign they could not tune the platform correctly that it took so many tries. Now that SSI has 2x as many revisions ( many of which were pay again steps or the result of widespread failures ), SSI thinks that is a sign of being a great tuner.

money for time?
I've never heard of other tuners pulling tunes from circulation because they were causing catastrophic issues. I've also never had 5* or LET ask me for more money for a tune update - or ask for additional money to upgrade me to a tune that 'will fix my issues' that the past several hundred dollars in tunes had. Heck, Ford changed my strategy code during a service visit and, according to Shawn, that would have cost me $75 for him to adjust for but LET did it for no charge.

I agree, I would not pay someone to fix a tune issue. If it truly did not work correctly and both parties worked to resolve the issue the should not be a charge.
I have NO problem paying for a revision that increases performance or enhances the driving experience.
I personally have never received a tune with an issue that was detrimental or had a flaw and continued to drive it. I have never purchased a tune to fix an issue with a tune. In a singular instance I paid for a performance tune. When I received it the vehicle threw a wrench if I went from reverse to drive too quickly. I informed Shawn and it was resolved via email no charge.
Again, its not fair to apply a broad sweeping generalizations to an entire customer base because of a few experiences.
