Disappointing SSI Review
#111
I have ran his Gen5 and loved it. But had issues with Gen 6. I have been on the Ecoboosted FB page and I'll I can say is that I was one of the lucky ones to pull that tune. If people want to find out for themselves they can, but I have moved onto a tuner that is just as powerful and has not had the mass problems that have risen.

Ditto, if you could find the time to send me a PM with your tune information, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,

Didnt read anything but the first post and title. As well, wont be readying replies here. Shawn and SSI treated me very poorly, I will not go into details but he/they will NEVER get my business, I dont care if his tunes made my truck literally fly. I be if he reads this his thoughts are something akin to "Good, I didnt need your business anyways". I rarely post negative things but I felt this was justified. I never wish ill will on anyone and I wish them the best but if I may offer a suggestion; SSI, you need to treat people as customers and with dignity if you are going to get anywhere as a business these days.

Agree completely, the truths are coming out.
1. You have major issues, Geno; not little issues, but big ones and they go well beyond this topic. I have been around long enough to witness you playing Dr. J and Mr. H on a couple of occasions. That level of instability is concerning - I wish you the very best.
2. Shawn's tunes do make trucks fly and he will continue to improve on what is all ready well ahead of any competition. Any SSI runner will advise everyone to try all other tunes first and then load up an SSi tune.... the reaction is always the same.
3. If and as you treat Shawn with respect, you get the same back. If you act like an ****, you will get the same back.
4. Along with 3 above, it seems that those who have a chip on their shoulder, seek drama, have to fight an establishment, have to see the little guy win, etc., et al, have the hardest time having a reasonable experience with SSi. If you fit into that group, the best options seem to be either get a tune and work with Shawn until you get it dialed in and then stay away, or, just stay away and run someone else's tune.
5. There is a known issue with SCTs templates - ALL tuners are dealing with them. Shawn has them figured out. Does your tuner have them figured out?
6. People are jumping in and jumping to conclusions without any knowledge whatsoever of what they are talking about. They point blame at a tune for engines dieing when the tune is the LAST thing that should be investigated.
7. Custom tunes, especially those from SSi are NOT the same as a stock tune. Thus, you must be able to and willing to firstly set up your engine for the tune and then religiously maintain your engine. Sadly, many of these keyboard warriors have no idea what a wrench looks like let alone know what to do with one.
8. You cannot please everyone all the time - and yes, it's a very good thing to jettison customers that do not fit just as it's a good idea not to patronize a business that does not provide a good fit - that is commerce and it goes on each and every day.
9. Of the glitzy names: first it was LMS, then MPT, then LET while SSi has been around the whole time moving the platform forward..... you choose, as after all, your choice only has to matter to you.
9. I'm pooped and its time for bed.

It seems like the 5.0l guys like the tunes and the EB guys seem to have troubles. Or at least that seems to be the majority of complaints in this thread.
This is just my observation.

Read thru a bunch of this. I chose Shawn for several reasons. Went in with both eyes open. Here is my experience...
Peace.
- Shawn is pretty much a one man operation. Be patient.
- He does know these trucks (Ecoboost). Suspect he's tuned more than anyone.
- He has been very good to deal with--remember I am older than most on here (56) and have been in the car scene since before most of you were born--I'm a very patient person.
- I don't expect tunes to be perfect straight out of the box. I have dealt with many of the top tuners in the country--JJ from from WMS on my '04 L, Chris Johnson on my '99 Cobra, Manny from HPP and Mike Murillo on my 9 second Turbo '93 Coupe--they all had to tweak the tune to get it 'right'. Shawn has been very responsive and has worked hard to get my tune for the EB where it should be.
Peace.

Yep it was posts such as yours that made me too believe to give Shawn a chance and multiple chances. When it ran well I loved the tune, but I knew no matter how much I loved the tune I couldn't keep letting the 'surging' issue happen.
It was time for me to cut my losses and move on. I didn't post anything publicly about SSI until recently, but part of the reason is all these guys jumping all over other people as if it's their fault Shawn's magic tunes didn't work out for them. I liked talking to Shawn most of the time, but to talk about Shawn's tunes as if they are the best thing ever and Shawn is the best thing ever and it's everyone else's fault is ludicrous.
I personally had multiple failures from 'the man' himself. Sent other peoples tunes, chewed out via email as if I a stealing, lying, cheating scoundrel for trying to pull a fast one via a tuner downgrade and not send the old one back - in which he get me mixed up with another guy that lived in my same city. Then sent tunes with the wrong rear-end and was told I actually couldn't adjust it myself, then told the strategy code I gave him was wrong, had to send photo's to prove I sent him all the right info in the first place, so don't try to say I wasn't patient with him and didn't give him enough chances. Even with all that I still donated two Ben's to his Christmas bike club deal that he gave bicycles to kids in need.
Then the maintenance/top performer issue when I take it to the dealer multiple times myself, change my plugs, re-gap multiple times as the gaps get tighter with various tune upgrades, then change again because a colder plug is better, oh and re-gap that a second time as well...
The tune made it so fun to drive, but the tune caused my truck to not run properly so I couldn't keep it along with the principle of keep paying for upgrades every time he made a change or because under his guidance after multiple failed attempts to fix it I take it into the dealer and they change my strategy code...
Maybe I just had a truck that wouldn't tune, I understand you can't win them all, but the SSI fan club jumping on anyone that disagrees is getting old.
Slingshot, not at all complaining about your post and as for you and Mapleduckslayer I am really glad your happy and it worked out for you. I appreciate you aren't putting others down with your posts, you're just stating your experience and not pointing fingers/inferring other posters are inadequate/ignorant/etc.
