Never cared for the 5.0 in my trucks! been there done that. I am just upgrading from my 94 150 5.8... yea I know they have improved the 5.0! I do have a concern the truck setting for a week at a time and the turbo oils back draining and dry starts. sure ford has probably solved this! 750 is not that bad of an charge to upgrade. not hearing any real good arguments for the 6.2 other then sound and its big? come on 6.2 guys! can it get 12 or better towing?

I have a Mitsubishi Evolution 8 as my "race" car as I got it when i was 17 and still have it cause it's fun to rip around every once in awhile and I let it sit for a couple months during the winter and started it up in a month or so and been driving it since. No problems and I know plenty of guys who let them sit longer then that over the winter months and no problems.

Yeah I ordered the EB on 1/28 and starts being built today so now the waiting game starts even more.... gonna be a long 2-3 weeks or whatever it takes to build and ship

Why not just call them and then drive to pick it up. 80 miles is only 1.5 hours.

I have flown from Houston to North Carolina and to Michigan to buy vehicles before. It is no big deal.

But....back on topic.

I went with the 3.5TT. It puts out very close to the same power as the 6.2, will not lose the power at higher elevation like the 5.0 or the 6.2, and will deliver better fuel mileage. I also chose the 3:55 rear. It is a good rear end for highway mileage and still has some power to tow. I had the 3:73 rear in my 02 Super Duty 7.3 and it was great for towing, but not needed for highway which is where it spent most of the time.

YMMV.

Go big or stay home may have been a 'slogan' for me when I was in my 20's or 30's but now in my late 50's, it does not resonate much.

Furthermore, 36 gal. at $4.00 per/gal = $144.00

Or, 36 gal. at $5.00 per/gal = $180.00

And if gas does climb to around $5.50, as some speculate, then your 36 gal tank will cost you close to $200.00 to fill up.

Another factor to consider, depending on how long you intend to keep the truck, is the resale value and ease of resale, down the road, with a 6.2L motor. In other words, what will a gallon of gas cost in five or six years?

Therefore, if the EB will easily do the job, will save you operational costs in the short term, and then also return a dividend at resale time, then the choice is easy. Moreover, it appears that even while towing, the EB MPG figures will hold up well; while it has been my experience with my previous 6.8 and now 5.4, that the MPG curve declines sharply, when towing a boat or trailer.

As the 36 gal tank, is a very nice option, and may be a consideration, it shouldn't be a deal-breaker. Moreover, it has been opined, that the 36 gal tank and Flex-Fuel option [may] be avialable on the 12's.

Ultimately you will do what you want to do, but this is just my view; and I most likely will change out my '09 for a '12, a year from now, as I do want the EB.

Why does everyone talk about the EB being such a great engine on Gas? The 5.0 is rated 1 mpg less for city AND highway mileage.

I got the fact that the EB is an awesome engine (for a 6 cyl) and tows like a mother... but don't look at it for the gas mileage benefit - it's really not outstanding over the 5.0L engine. It definitely beats the 6.2L but - not so much over the others.

I do want to add that Ford had done an amazing job with the mpg boosts on all their engines.

I came from an 07 V8 Sport Trac that had the 4.6L engine and got consistently 23mpg highway. I was VERY IMPRESSED with that but - when I look at my F150, comparing the shear difference in size (Sport Trac vs F150), it continually amazes me on how much mpg I can get with such a big truck.
