Well I will take it in on Monday. I don't think changing the oil would make them not repair the issue. And they don't know it was changed...

They obviously f'd up and now should be on the hook for at minimum a short block and better yet a long block.

You never know. They could do an oil analysis and find an oil in there that they don't offer. Or whatever. It just gives them a possible way out. Now that would be an extreme situation but you never know.
I agree don't tell them you changed the oil.

2003 F-150 King Ranch
I have a 2013 F150 FX2 5.0 motor that hit 16,000 miles. I took it yesterday to dealer for oil change. After 1 hour they advised me it was ready and that it was sitting outside. When I start the truck with my door open I notice a slight metal on metal sound coming from the driver side wheel well. Its not a constant taping sound. It more like its morse code. I called the service adviser. They take the truck, They came back 30 mins later and said. They hear the sound. Sounds like it coming from the bottom of the motor by the oil pain. They confirm its coming from the motor. I had 2 options.. Leave truck and let them dig into it or come back on Monday and drop the truck off. I left with the truck but will be returning on Monday. I spoke to a buddy mechanic and he said something is wrong and he believes they ran my truck without oil. He said maybe the tech started the truck and then realized he forgot the oil.. Well I wont say anything about the oil change. But I cant see how a brand of oil would allow them not to cover a issue inside the motor.. Especially since it started after they changed the oil and gave me the truck that way... Its still 5w20 that I used... and a motorcraft filter... Something happened and I will drop it off Monday.. Here comes the fun. I can only imagine the fight and battle ahead. I doubt I will get a long block let alone a short block...

From an oil analysis..... lol. Good luck with that. I have had many done in my lifetime on my own and you won't be able to tell a thing beyond the fact it's the exact same viscosity. Not to mention the problem was documented by the dealer before the guy ever left.

If you can tell what additives, metals, etc are in certain oils, you can compare it with what they sell. If it's different then they could have suspicion that something was changed. Like I said, I doubt they will go that far but it's possible.

It won't go that far..... yikes. Its a 5w20 oil that will meet or exceed any recommendation from Ford. They don't have anything to say... you can't void a warranty based on using an oil they don't stock.. jeez. They documented the issue the day the did the oil change. The doom and gloom on this forum gets so old after a while
