Default Dark smoke from EB at start up

Anyone else noticed dark smoke coming from the tailpipe when first starting an EcoBoost? I notice mine especially when the engine is cold and has been sitting for a while. It will smoke a little for a minute or so after starting especially if I give it a little throttle. Is this normal for a DI engine? I have 31k miles and haven't really noticed this until recently. It's not burning any oil that I can tell. The oil level is still normal after about 4000 miles since the last change.

Is it caused by extra fuel for warm up?

I've been told it's because of the DI, mine does this as well, I feared it was burning oil at first it's so dark, and tailpipe residue as well. Of course with my crappy mileage (13.0 total at 11000 miles) maybe something IS wrong....

Seen any diesels running around lately???

Mine is not blowing a lot of smoke. In fact it is barely noticeable. Just wondering if anyone else knew more about it...

Mine has done it since Day 1. Blows black when I romp on it real hard too, especially if I've been babying the truck for a few weeks.

Normal. The reason for this is, the O2 sensors have not warmed up yet therefore they cannot send a signal (or at least a proper signal) to the ECM. Some call this "open loop" meaning the ECM is using a pre-programmed map (timing, fuel, IAC, ect) to follow (usually rich burning) until it receives a signal from the O2s and/or coolant temp. sensor. Also, the combustion chamber, cats, trans, is still cold so nothing is operating where it is most efficient. Just about every EFI vehicle I can think of does this. Some worse than others.
