I was highly disappointed in my mpg's all winter averaging around 14.5-15.5 or about the same as my buddys truck which is a twin to mine besides the 5.0. But now for some reason under the same driving conditions an roads except for the warmer air I am now averaging 18-19 mpg. It has left me scratching my head as to why all of the sudden it jumped up in mileage but I aint complaining. I've never had a vehicle that is so inconsistent with mpg

There are multiple reasons why this happens. Cold start fuel enrichment dumps more fuel into the engine on startup and remains that way for longer because it takes longer to get the engine to a "warmed up" temperature.

The other reason is because the torque converter does not lock up until the trans temp reaches 105 degrees. Not having the torque converter locked up wastes a lot of fuel, especially on these trucks.

Some will also say that different winter fuel blends are the cause, but it is much lesser of a contributor than the two things I mentioned above.

My 2011 EB had the check engine light come on yesterday throwing the P0430 code. I have 103k on mine so I am out of warranty. Will re-flash alone fix this most likely? I know the TSB says converter but I called dealer and they want $200 for reflash but if it's converter said it would run close to $1000. Anyone had experience with this?

Thanks for the input, I'm scheduled to take her in tomorrow for diagnostics and reflash and would like to know a little more before the dealer tries to take me for all I'm worth!

Default 2012 eb not able to reflash/update

So I've been to two dealerships trying to get the update for the pcm and every time they go in there, the computer kicks them back out. Anyone have this same issue????
