The message I'm getting is not to worry about this reported carbon buildup. Or if i do something about it, not to pay the $199 for the treatment the dealership is offering. (I did call Ford customer service and while the rep was very kind and understanding told me to read the manual.)
I'm going to try the two tanks of E85 gas, and then one can of Sea Foam additive. Will see if the dealership won't do a free recheck afterwards. Though I am not sure exactly how the emissions read out shows engine carbon build up. I did not ask for the read out.
No, the truck is not running low on oil between changes.

Jerry, is it when they did an emissions test for an inspection when they said you have a carbon buildup problem? Just a little curious since some of us have over 100k miles and haven't had any such issues.

Sounds like the Ford representative was trying to tell you to stick to the 'Factory Recommended Service Intervals'

If there is serious carbon buildup with so few miles there's an underlying issue that's causing it that needs to be addressed (under warranty of course).

I had valve noise on my passenger side and I ran some 93 real gas and used 1 can of sea foam and reset my computer and noise is now gone. I also just installed a catch can and at 75 miles had some present in bottom. Sounds like you have a good plan Jerry, I would do that first.

FordRoushFan - You are neither book smart or experienced in the field of mechanics. If you were you would know what type of diagnostic machine was used to perform the test (the OP does not have to state it). You would also know that in order to use such machinery the technician would have to of gone to some sort of technical institute to learn how to operate it, thus earning a certificate in the process (in most cases, the dealer wouldn't even hire the person without it, let alone allow him/her to use it). And, most importantly, you would know how a combustible engine operates and how easy it is for carbon to build up on the intake valves, combustion chamber and fuel injectors.

It seems that the only thing you're good at is making yourself appear "smart" but to people like "me", we can spot a fraud like you a mile away. So, yes, that does make this hilarious!!
Well as a people like "me" ... Have you EVER ACTUALLY turned a wrench or is your certification in blathering? Let me guess ... You've got a lot of participation awards because you're special, right?

And ya ... For decades I've turned wrenches, even gotten certifications, and read books. Oh my?

I had a similar experience with my dealership. I had decarbonizing done twice, 10 months apart. According to the dealership, my Edge programmer was to blame , although the first decarbonizing occurred before the programmer was nstalled. The programmer has since been removed and oil catch can installed about 5000 miles ago. There is quite a bit of oil build-up in the catch can too. I can only assume that the build-up is a result of heavy blow-by.

On a side note, I've had numerous service attempts on my motor (also a 5.0L now with 60k miles) for various knocks and rattles. To date, there is not remedy other than a 100k power train warranty on Ford.

I insist, though I'm not a mechanic, that there is something wrong with this motor, just can't get anyone to verify it.

Such a struggle!

Redmist,

Sorry for not answering you sooner. Lithia Ford on Fairview started this whole conundrum. I sure hope they will repeat the carbon testing after I try the home remedies.

I told the lube tech to get his manager, told him what the dealership said and to open the doors so I could get the hell out of there.

That was the last time I ever went to a lube shop.
