Default Bought my first Ford

I have been a life long bowtie and got fed up with the issues that went along with owning one. So I bought my first Ford last week, 2014 F150 5.0 STX 4 door.

I am hoping you guys can help me out with some questions.
-Do I need to use synthetic oil?
-Does this truck really take 8 qrts of 5w-20 oil?
-What is the recommended oil filter for these? I used Mobil 1 for the chevy
-Any known issues with this year?

Thanks

8 qts of 5w20

I would run a napa gold or a motocraft filter. As far as issues you will just have to hit the forums and read.

2014 has most of the bugs worked out as far as this gen goes. There's still a few left over, but not many. All of the engines appear to be quite solid after all the updates since they were introduced. Do you have the 6.5' bed or the 5.5' bed? The reason I ask is that a few people have noted a driveline vibration with their trucks. That's the biggest thing I can think of as far as possible problems......well that and the go pedal ruins your gas mileage. Lol.

You don't NEED synthetic, but that is what most run. I run Mobil 1 in mine. Enjoy it!

Thanks everyone. Ford filter from dealer? My dealer is saying oil changes by them are $40 bucks includes oil and filter. Is this normal? I can not buy oil and filter for this price.

I have the 5.5 ft bed.

You can buy the filters at walmart and some parts stores.

I run ford motocraft synthetic blend 5w30. That way if I take it to the dealership for a change, it has the same oil being put in.

Why do you think that price is not normal? Most quick lube shops around here are 24.99 for 5qts and a filter. Ford throws in an tire rotation for another 15$.

Here is a link to coupons for oil changes:

Seemed cheap for me from a dealer, 8 qrts of oil and filter (Again mobil 1 and mobil 1 filter would be over 60 bucks) and again I have been ripped off from Chevy for many years.

Is there anyplace Ford places the owners manual? I would like to read it at lunch about oil, maintenance etc.
